Default Load Rating & HPDE/Auto-X

I'm thinkin' of attending my first HPDE, but I'm beginning to wonder if my 205/50/15 Azenis are worthy. What does load rating mean to me? These are being worn on my 15x7" stock Passat alloys, on my 3100 lb family sedan. The 205/50/15 Azenis carry a 85 load rating, while my OEM tires came with an 89 load rating. That comes out to 144 lbs less per tire, or 576 lbs less load capability, totaling 4540 lbs. What I've read is that its important for towing, but how pertinent is it to RR/AX? Thanks for the help.

I believe that only applies to towing capabilities. I'm not 100% on that, but if I were you I wouldn't be all that concerned. Go out there and beat up your Passat.

The Azenis will do fine. Don't worry about it. I would recoment adding about +2 PSI over your cars recomended tire pressure for the school, and all will be good. Be safe and have fun!!

This rating is for the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating which is the car and all passengers and cargo. If you are exceeding 4500 # when on track, you may want to unload the car before the session.

On the street, you still should not exceed the GVRW but the demand is different during normal/sane street driving so you should be OK. If you are getting close to the wt limit on the street, buy a second set of wheels for street tires or buy a truck... JK!!

Sounds good then. My concern was that the dynamic weight generated by my massive braking power would somehow exceed that of the tires/GVWR.
