Default b16a/J1 gear ratios

I have a b16a with a J1 tranny, but i have no tachometer, damn Std model.

Can someone give me a link to a gear ratio calculator, or if you know at what speed the optimal shift point is in each gear i would appreciate the info.

From experience so far, i have been shifting into 2nd gear at 40, then into 3rd at 60, then into 4th at 80, but i can't tell if that is the redline. TIA

just take every gear up to revlimiter then look at the mph and that will give u the shift points when racing

I say get a cluster with a tach. they snap right in. That's what I did with my dx. 70 mph is 4,000 rpm, in 5th 35mph is at like 2000 i believe. Its high strung, but its a blast to rip thru all five, then the speed limiter kicks you in the nutts ending your fun. but smart

I know that much, I mainly wanted to know the optimal speed to shift into each gear. I was trying to avoid having to hit the rev limiter, but that is what I resorted to anyway.

I am getting a tach soon, but I will be running it at the track this weekend and the tach will not be installed yet.

I was under the impression VTEC wouldn't engage without a tachometer. Not sure where I heard that or why I believed it...

You're thinking of the Vehicle Speed Sensor, which is located in the speedometer side.
