Todd keeps it off the wall on Sunday
Id forgotten about it until I watched the In-car from Sunday. How Todd managed to keep it off the wall in the banking I dont know, but he was all the way up in the marbles. I kept thinking I hope he doesnt come back down!!!!!!
I'll post the vids soon!

oh yeah, that was an exciting facet to sundays race.... i was 75% sure that i was going to become intimately aquainted with the wall during that lap.... after the race, i had to check the right side of the car to see if the mirror had been pushed back!! it was close; oh so close. i have in car footage of it; sounds like a million shotguns shooting the underside of the car at 130+ mph up there in the gravel and crapola. the tape is at my crew chief's house, where he hopefully will find time to digitize it soon....
i can't exactly recall what happened; seems to me that there was a car below me (two wide we were) coming into Nascar 3; my car slipped out of the high groove and we were going at a fairly good clip; before i knew it i was inches off the wall. i barely feathered the throttle and kept my hands very quiet. guided it around and down off the exit of Nascar four and away we went!
worst part of the whole thing was that my wife, Janet, who rarely attends these races, was there sitting in the high bleachers near the start finish line with my six year old daughter. she told me later that she shut her eyes, because she "knew i was going to crash".
that kind of manuever makes it tough for me to keep telling her that i "drive really carefully when racing" and that the other guys are the maniacs....
that race was nonstop for me, from the drop of the green flag to the dash to the finishline. after the hectic start, i battled for some time with a ITS RX-7. got around him after a while (i think his engine was missing in the extreme top end); then fought tooth and nail to get up to Robert Williams; almost did it, except for a troublesome ThunderRoadster that kept hounding me in the infield like a Jack Russell Terrier and then held me up on the banks. we swapped back and forth a ton of times; side by side in the infield, etc.
then the final shootout the last few laps with Warren's Type R.... whew, even with a nontuned motor, he was fast. we battled back and forth and it came down to a half a car length (or less; he was at least up to my passenger door) at the finish line. i couldn't slow enough to make turn one on the cool down lap
great great racing. Lowes is a great track when it comes down to raw competition that takes place there. awesome!!
good for the spectators, too, i believe?

PS special thanks to KingRat for emergency delivery of a good set of front brakelines on Friday night to replace the cracked line on my right front!!!! KingRat is da man!

okay, i'm literally salivating for some video now... sounds like a great weekend, glad everyone is safe.
good recap Todd!
Ben, who wishes he had his camera hooked up (first time ever I didn't) during the qualifier race in OK this weekend. Got side swiped through a sharp right-hand sweeper where an RX7 tried to out-brake me but locked up and punted me off the track instead. Good thing I passed him for first place in the main race later

Nice Job Todd!
I saw you closing the gap behind me there for a while. That silver Thunder Roadster hounded me in the infield for a while too, but he just didn't have enough speed on the oval to close in on me. It was nice to see your family there to support you. Great Race!
