Noobs could benefit from this...
**Mods, you can delete this thread if you feel as though it's necessary, but I felt that it had to be done**
After reading gizdawg's recent threads about making an Accord a race car, and noticing his attitude, I decided it's about time to educate him, and others like him. Or maybe I just didn't want to see a Part 4 thread.
When I first joined the board in late 2002, I figured everyone was cool with the whole F&F stuff. To my surprise, I was wrong. Here are a few of the threads I made at that time.
http://www.accordinglydone.com...d=229
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=360091
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=350626
Now, after reading through those very thoroughly, I realized that, one, I had made a complete *** out of myself, and two, neons, and the like are not liked by everyone. These days, I can't even stand to look at a completely "riced out" car. Just sickens me.
In reference to the first two threads I listed above, the main point of them was for me to figure out how I could beat an AV6 with my I4 auto. What made it worse was the fact that the AV6 owner was a girl. Constantly was made fun of because I got stuck with an auto I4. "Why didn't you get a stick-shift?" Blah, blah, blah. I don't even care anymore that her car is faster than mine. Now take joy in what I have, and am happy when I add a new part, etc.
What really pisses me off is this. When I first started off on H-T, I was not mean towards those who were either helping me, or flaming me. Some noobs here are jackasses, but after they do their complaining, and backtalking, they turn to members for help when he/she needs it.
Other members have been nice enough to explain all of the available routes that can be taken when modding a car, so there is no need for me to explain that.
That's all I have to say.

Me neither. Are you trying to make the point that noobs should be nice and stuff?

I'm pretty sure I'd like to understand exactly what you mean, because in some parts of your post, you sounded like you were coming up with a valid point. Please explain yourself.
I know one thing is different than from when i joined and that is the fact that the newer members do not take the time to read and try and learn they just want to be spoon fed all of the answers rather than learning for themselves. when i first joined i don't think i even posted for about 2 or 3 months because during that time i was reading and studying trying not to be a noob. I think that if more new members put forth some effort to help themselves then this problem that you are talking about will get better. (I am not sure if i rambled too much but that is what i wanted to say on this matter.)
How about I make it that if you wanna post in this forum you have to be a memebr for over a year?
this forum is a shade of what it use to be, it no longer is a technical board. It is a board of idiots who no longer wish to take some time and research.
Also the spelling and grammar of the incoming participants gets worse daily.

Nah, I no longer have anything against any H-T members. Realized how I acted, and what I had said, then it all became clear.
The point of this thread was basically was 01accordv6 was talking about. Just to educate noobs already involved with H-T, and those to come. And to gizdawg, there is a lot more involved with a turbo setup than just the installation.

I am glad you see the point i was getting across. I see more and more people on the board that do not know what they are talking about and some how their post counts are higher than mine. I think that may be because there is just far to much post whoring.

shouldn't it be "get" since the subject is plural..?
anyway, i still don't see the point in this thread...
if you have a auto i4 and want to beat a av6, get a turbo kit... boostin' works for me..!

see, sometimes a little flaming is warranted to get someone on the right track.

Agreed...We all started as newbs at one point...whether it be on the Accord forum or all. I started off in the Civic forum and now just learning more about the potentials of Accords. The allmighty H22 and what not. Anyways, i see both Crono's and Legends points. You gotta take into consideration that mods have tried to put "read this" topics first so that new comers wouldn't have to ask "stupid" questions. I, myself, have been faulted too for asking dumb questions, but in the end, got the question answerd. I guess that's what the whole idea of this forum is...to get your questioned answerd. It's a TECH forum, and yes there are ******** out there too...
I guess im gonna shut up now myself...but i get the points...No, newbs aren't gonna go away, and i don't think that whole year idea is a good one.

The point is not that Newbs would get away, new people are always welcome IMO, it can spur new ideas and opinions to debate on.
I understand that one year membership before posting, though I think it's a little exagerated. This would mean I still wouldn't be able to post for another month and a half, and I feel, I hope, at least some of my posts have been constructive and helped at least a few people out at some point.
I would propose, if the occasion was given to me, a 3-6 months trial user status where you can make only one post a day. This would ensure that Newbs, if they tend to go out and write just about anything, would do it only once a day, so it would slow down the amount of crap that is posted here, but mostly, it would teach them to make their posts as worthwhile as possible. After that trial period, depending on whether the user has lost percentage ratings or not, he could be upgraded to a less restrictive status to his demand (and only when he requests it, would his case be examined), or just plain HT member. A user who would have lost 1 or more percentage points would be forced to see his probation prolonged for another 3 months, until the acting up would be over.
This sure would enhance the Accord forum's quality, and discourage trolls who go out on a "rampage". I don't expect that it would bring it back to where it was since many members have migrated to AD, as Urbanlegend21 was saying there this morning, but also, IMO, because of the other tech forums on HT, causing the wealth of info to be diluted among the forums, but it's no biggie. Just getting this forum back to a nice tech info wealth level would be great.
Anyhow, I am not complaining, just sharing some suggestions I can see would help. As I've said before, I love HT way too much to ever consider leaving, but I do admit I don't have the enthusiasm and interest I had even a few months ago. Nothing that can't be solved, though.

I agree with you that a little flaming is in order when someone asks a dumb question, BUT that is all that is needed we do not need whole threads taken up of people posting worthless stuff just to make fun of someones mistake. I remember the first thread i ever started and that was asking in the accord forum about taking out the guages to install white face indiglo guages (which i still have but i do not use them anymore) I needed to know the best way to hold them in and i got flamed but not bad. They made their point about useless modifications and proceeded to answer my question. After that i didn't post for about 4 or 5 months cause i saw my mistake and i needed help so i started reading and learning. That is why i think new members should put forth effort to enhancing their knowledge about their own vehicle and others so that they can contribute. I am sorry that i wrote so much but i have been wanting to address the excessive flaming that goes on. I am done know thank you.
I know that I am a noob to this forum as well, but there is something I'd like to say on this subject. I am here for the sole purpose of learning more about building and tuning a car. Unlike the stereotypical noobs of this forum, I did take the time to read through countless threads, and I have used the search function to find the answers I was looking for. My point is that, although many noobs have asked "stupid" questions, there are still many of us that just silently read.
I like to think that I'm fairly knowledgeable about many of the subjects that are brought up in this forum, but I will be the first to admit that there are plenty of things I don't know anything about, and that there are tons of ppl on here that know a great deal more than me. Again, this is the reason I'm here. But I'd like to point out that many of the noobs are probably fairly young and inexperienced. Many are very impressionable. Many ppl who now bash on the neon lights and other pointless mods, once liked those very same things. (At this point, many of you are silently thinking, 'Yeah, I did some of those pointless mods before'... Don't lie...
)
IMO, if you want to bring this forum back to a higher technical status, then stop bashing the noobs that ask "dumb questions" and help educate them. Help to guide ppl away from ricer mods. Help to guide ppl away from street racing... Educate these ppl so that they can educate others...
