Default 97+ Vtec Head on 92-95 closed deck bolck?????

Hi
I searched and could not find.............
I believe I bought a 97+ Prelude.....Reason I say believe is because the guy(works @ Honda BTW) I bought it from said it came from a 97+ Prelude but I saw the stamping on the head and its a P13.....so did all vtec preludes get the same P13 code. Also would it matter if I used this head on a closed decked block?
Thanks in advavce for any help

the p13 is the ECU code, and that's the correct ECU code for the VTEC,

What about the code that honda stamps on on thier heads, thats what I meant if the codes are the same for the 92-02 vtec preludes. ALso will this head work on a closed deck block, even though it came off a open decked block
Thanks

if you mean engine codes, that's not on the head either, i'm pretty sure that's on the block, but for the 92-96's it's an h22a1, and the 97+'s are h22a4, and then the jdm's are h22a's

An h22a4 head will work on a closed deck block. Check my sig, been doing it for a long time now.

As far as running forged pistons in the h22, the frm cylinder liner does not like forged pistons. Wiseco (which I am running) is only company that has made a piston that will work with the frm cylinder wall. They have an 11.25:1 N/A piston. If they are designed like the turbo pistons, they should work just fine.

So wiseco has pistons that would yeild a 11.25:1 compression? And they would drop right in and not need any sleeves just the basic honing of the block.....hmmmmmmm..........how much are they? where could I get some?

Have anymore info on these pistons?

the H22A4 head will fit the H22A1 block just fine. you just need to use your old dizzy and mounting bracket since the 97+ sensors moved to the oil pump housing and has a fixed dizzy.

i know what you're talking about on the head castings. P13 is for H22, P14 is for H23. an H23 block is stamped with P13 since the block is identical to the H22, but the pistons, rods, and crank are all stamped "P14", along with the H23 block stamp. the h23 head of course has "P14" casted in instead of "P13". the ecu just follows the same number to match the motor... B18C heads are stamped "P72" for example.

H series blocks were manufactured "androgenously"... once loaded with internals, be it the H22 or H23 internals, the block was then stamped with the corresponding "H22" or "H23" stamp... but of course the "P13" casting remained.

as long as you judt get the pressure switch(green plugged sensor), it will take care of your broken sensor.

You should be able to find the wisecos at either http://www.raceeng.com or http://www.wiseco.com

So which head gasket did you use? The H22A1 or H22A4?

A 5th gen head should be stamped P5M, while the 93-96 VTEC is P13. and yes you can put an A4 head on an A1 block.

I have the reverse, an A1 head on an a4 block in my fourth gen

Thanks you the info, So that means I have a 93-96 Prelude Vtec Head then, due to the P13 stamp on it. Not that it matters since I hear both are physically identical .

yeah.

Aren't the headgaskets the same for all years? it's the coolant passages in the head that matter and the heads are the same basically..check the part numbers

You didn't answer my question. You said that you HAVE a A1 head on your A4. I just want to know what head gasket you are using

And for your question, no the head gaskets aren't the same and the two have have different part numbers.
