S2K Aftermarket Stereo Question...
Hey guys,
I went and looked at the S2K Yesterday at the Honda Dealership. I liked it, very very cool car
My question is, I noticed on the left side there were all the controls for the stereo. I understand the stereo is in the middle covered by the drop down thing, but if you get an aftermarket stereo, can it still be controlled with the controls on the driver side?
Thanks
Eli

nope. gotta stay with the crappy stock head unit to keep the redundant controls (which are kinda dumb anyways since the radio is within easy reach). you can hook up a amp with speaker-level inputs, as well as change out the suck a$$ stock speakers. it will be a big improvement in soun. personally, i don't care about the radio enough to bother.
There is a place that can wire certain aftermarket remotes with the stock controls. See http://www.s2ki.com/, its there somewhere.
I left the stock head unit and installed an Infinity Kappa Component system.
This is not for the faint of heart, as some serious cutting is involved. The tweeters are in the door panels and the control box is mounted to a little plastic spot inside the door. The speaker holders need to be cut to accomodate the speaker magnet.
Ive done the door speaker mod to all the Honda's Ive owned (see sig) with no water problems. The speaker system I installed is the REF605CS, and it sounds awesome @ 100 with the top down.
This, along with the full floormats and leather center console cover are the only modifications I plan on making to my S2000. I can snap pics if anyone is interested.
Hope this helps,
Demian

yeah, please post pix of your stereo install. i'm curious now. what color is your st00k?
p.s. io burn: i just read your sig. you have a '99 boxster? why would you need an s2k? (nevermind that the s2k is faster
)
[edit]p.p.s. demian, have you considered a front sway bar or exhaust? i am thinking about those mods as they allow you to remain AS-legal. you can drop a lotta weight with exhaust (e.g. 40+ lbs. with amuse Ti exhaust).

I'll snap some when i get home. The car is black black - I wanted white, but the only way to get white would be with red interior - I could for sure find someone to trade, seats and door panels are easy, but that carpet *blah*
Havent considered autoxing the car seriously. Actually the wife and I went to a two day class, her in the stook and me in my old R *snif*I took a job at Microsoft, and hveve been busy as a one legged man in an *** kicking contest.
Havent really considered modifying the car either. I bought a 92 White Si HB a month or two ago - put another 1500 into it, so the car funds are quite low right now.
I'll get those pics up tonight, hell, might even write up a little install guide and submit it to s2ki,

Drivers side - note tweeter and speaker.

Passenger Side - note cut in door panel near tweeter edge!
Patience is a MUST, this bugs the **** out of me, and to top it off, wife got home with the correct sander 2 minutes later. *agh*
View while driving - the bass is actually quite good, and since the tweeter is located on the door, your leg doenst block the sound (the reason I did this in the first place).
Required tools for good install:
1) Cutter for the speaker basket - back hald needs to come off to accomodate speaker magnet, it ends up fitting flush anyway.
2) After cutting initial (small!) hole for tweeter, use the sander to slowly smooth out a hole for the tweeter mount.
Everything I needed for install and mounting was included in the kit.

Quite nice actually, and only $450 for a new passenger door panel, or $100 at a good upholstry shop to fix my impatient mistake
Hope this helps,
Demian

I have a Pioneer Premier P-920 with 12 disk changer, focal components, 4-8" JL AUDIO subs, RF 800a4 amp and ADS amp. All of my controls work like a champ. I purchased a mod from a board member on s2ki.com. It actually works better than the stock setup since I can re-map the buttons to do what I want. For example, I use the "mode" button to change discs instead of changing modes.
