Default Rust on springs?

I just bough some neuspeed race springs from a fellow member here on HT and on each coil, the horizontal areas where it coils up, there is surface rust that is eating away the powdercoated yellow area. I bought these from someone who is from Connecticut. Any people have similar problems with their springs? Will this affect performance? do I need to coat them with something? Thanks for the help guys

get a thick latex paint so its gummy/rubbery/whatever for it after you sand it down. that way it flexes w/o chipping or breaking like most paints will do

after 1 or 2 good new england winters my eibach's coating was all but gone and pretty well rusted...

I NEVER did anything about it and they stayed just about the same (fine) for years afterwards...

It would take a LONG time to rust through the steel that springs are made of.
