mpfi swap question..
I have a 89' crx dx and I want to do the mpfi swap on it.. I also have the mpfi manifold off of a 91 hf along with the ecu and dizzy from the 91 hf.. Are these good parts to run on the dx engine.. I dont have any si parts but I do have alot of hf parts but the intake manifold from the hf is small but it is an mpfi manifold and the ecu is a pm8 ecu.. Is this good to use to do the mpfi swap.. Thanks

I think this is going to have the opposite affect that you want. While yes it will be MPFI and your using a DX block rather than an HF block I dont think you will see the kind of gains if any that you would want. All of the HF pieces I.E...Intake, ECU, TB is all made for fuel economy the intake is restrictive the TB has a small bore and the ECU has vewry mild fuel maps. If you want to do it cause you have the stuff give it a try and let us know if you notice an increase or not. Otherwise i would say hold out for the Si parts. Also you may want to try the parts but get an Si ecu atleast that might help you out a little bit more power wise than the HF ecu.

I wanted to do this because I can setup the engine for mpfi and doing the required wiring changes and such.. A friend is going to give me a d series TB that im going to try and put on the intake manifold after boring it about a little bit.. This isnt going to be my final motor at all (b18c1 turbo in the end) but I have this stuff around and I dont care if anything happens to the motor.. I am going to chip the pm8 ecu and run the ghettodyne pm6 program for boost so it will be like having a pm6 ecu.. I also have a Airesearch t3 that I want to put on it just to play around with.. My main goal here is to learn more about tuning the ecu before I change over to my B18 engine.. blowing a $20 motor is better than blowing a built $4000 motor if you know what I mean..
Well if your more worried about learning and just playing around then just do it. I mean your not going to hurt anything by using the HF stuff you just wouldnt see the kind of gains you would out of using Si parts but if your not worried about it I say go for it.

d16a6 parts are cheap. id recommend you just do it right the first time.

Why is it pointelss??? I mean he is doing it to learn and then swapping in a different motor so with all of the money he will save from buying the Si mpfi parts that would be more than enough to cover gaskets and coolant and such.

well would you spend money to have less power?
mpfi swap is definately worthwhile for the knowledge you gain but why not spend $50-75 get a d16a6 or d15b7 manifold and a pm6 ecu and actually see some benefits from doing the swap.

Tell me where you can find a si intake manifold and a pm6 ecu for $50.00 and ill take it.. If I can find a si intake manifold for a good price then ill use it but the pm8 and the pm6 are also the same ecu.. With a cheap adapter board the pm8 will be chipped and since the pm6 and pm8 run the same code I can just run the pm6 map in the pm8 and it will be a pm6 then..
well for the manifold you should be able to find a d15b7 (92-95 dx) manifold for next to nothing.
put a wtb in your sig and post in the eg forum im sure theres lots of people with them just collecting dust.
when i did my mpfi swap i paid $100 for the manifold, tb, ecu and dist
btw im not trying to discourage you from doing the swap i just think you'll probably be pretty dissapointed with the results if you use all hf parts

I didnt know a 92-95 dx civic intake would work.. I think a friend of mine has one of those.. Probably what im going to do it use the hf stuff for now and the second I see a si intake or dx civic one ill just swap it out.. I just want to get the ground work up for mpfi so that its running on mpfi.. Its not that im against spending money on my car.. im not a tightass at all.. It that I dont have alot of money right now and I have the hf parts in my garage and alot of time on my hands so I figured to just the mpfi setup going and start using some tuning software like ghettodyne that I can start playing with tuning and grab a si dx mpfi manifold when I see one for the right price.. Ill change my sig to say that im looking for the manifold.. Thanks for your help..
