Default GS-R Owners...I need advice finding a new insurance company.

Last July I totalled my '96 GS-R and picked up a '98 GS-R to replace it. I have a clean driving record aside from the accident. Now, my insurance company, Nationwide Fire / Allied Insurace Co, is charging me almost double if not more than what I used to pay. Not to mention they weren't going to cover a friend that was in the car for some odd reason and now he's trying to sue them. I'm in a family plan with my parents and my dad is considering leaving Allied for Geico but I just read (thanks to the Honda-Tech search) that they suck *****. I'm hoping that at least one of you has been in a similar situation and can recommend a good company or at least some tips in searching for one. Thanks in advance....I don't wanna have to sell my car

I've got GEICO, in my own name (no primary/part time driver BS), and I own the car. I'm 25, clean record and I pay <$1900/yr now full coverage. I think I got them when I was 22 and its was $2400 back then. I've had one claim filed with them when I had a accident with a bicyclist. I was very happy with their service and the adjuster didn't try to lowball me on a estimate, cut me a check $500 over what I was expecting on the spot. Me and my cousin are very happy with GEICO's prices and service. But we've claimed only typical things like just exterior body. The horror stories I've read here seems to be for heavily modded cars?

Just didn't want everyone getting a 1 sided story.

I also pay $1900/yr, full coverage on my 94 GS-R, but I'm 23 and have a clean record except for a couple of tickets.

I guess I am getting whored by State Farm . I am 21...perfect record...every possible discount (steer clear, good student, multi car) and I pay $1,900 a year. My comprehensive deductable is $100 and my collision is $1,000. However...they said all my modifications are covered as long as I have receipts and pictures of the car with the modifications.

All and all I guess I am happy with them...I have never filed a claim so all I do is pay the bill so there is not much to go on.

i too am with state farm. I pay $2100/year and im 19 years old. i have a 95 gsr. I've had MANY tickets. up to 13 points too... I dont think they've found out about the tickets tho.. i dont know HOW, but 2100 seems a lil low for that many tickets. haha But yeah im happy with them. $200/comp, not sure about my collision, i made on comprehensive claim, thats it.

No this is for the GSR only.... I also got other quotes of around 1200 but refused to pay that much and kept shopping. My coverage is 500/30 with 500 deductible for both comp and collision.

Switch to GEICO and get married if you haven't yet
We pay 500 per year for two cars full coverage, 97GSR and 95 corolla. I have 1 speeding ticket.

you have to keep in mind where the car is parked (zip code given to insurance) I think plays a large roll in the insurance cost too.

I live in the suburbs and drive a 94 GSR. I just turned 18, I have one at fault accident (fender bender) and one NOT at fault accident (where my car was totalled). Insurance ruled the second accident 100% the other guys fault. I pay 3600/yr

Zip code does play alot in your premiums..... like for instance they factor in how many uninsured drivers are in your area....the more uninsured the more liability for claims so our premiums suffer...

Sorry to get off track, but did they even make a Type-R in '96? I didn't think so. I'm referring to the previous poster's sig, btw.

hmmm...sounds like some of you are getting hooked up, while others are getting royally screwed, even by the same companies! Geico quoted me really bad, $3600/6 months. That's insane. Yeah, I wrecked my car, but I have a clean record aside from that, and have a good student discount. I don't want to get rid of my car, but if I can't get decent insurance, I'm gonna have to . What do you guys think of local insurance companies? Are they just as good as nationwide ones?
