some questions before i start my build..
im oped to any suggestions about any of those parts... or what kind of power you think it will make, anything!!! my dad's helping me out with it, so price isnt that big of a deal... but still something to take into consideration
You goint to do bigger valves? Consentrate most of your work on the head. Almost 80% of HP is in the head work alone.
Don't take this the wrong way,but if you keep changing your mind about parts without a solid idea of what you want the motor to be or make, the usual result is an engine that doesn't live up to it's full potential at the least and runs like **** at the worst.Engines are a complex assortment of parts that must work and complement each other.Sit down and think what you really want the motor to do.Talk to people who have the kind of motor you'd like to have and see what thier running.Combinations are what make the most power, not throwing parts at it and hoping it will make tons of power cause they almost always dont.Like I said before dont take this as an insult, just trying to help.

well put..... really what you need to do is just think about realistic goals either hp wise or quartmile wise and give us some numbers to better realize what kind of power you are attempting to make

well... its hard for me to talk to people in boise, cause there are so few honda people here... let alone people that would know how to build a close to 300 hp motor, thats kinda why i made this post
but for the guy that wanted to know my goals.. 300 hp, mid to high 10 seconds, in my crx.. its gonna be weighing in right at the legal limit... so around 1650

you might want to think about a block with more potential for torque when drag racing is your only purpose. I'd recommend either an LsVtec, or maybe even a CrVtec..
The potential for power would jump that much more and the weight would addition would hardly be noticable.

300 hp is going to be a very hard to attain goa. especially with a b16, you need to sit down and realise that not just anyone can put together a 10 second car, cause its not just the motor, its the tranny, and the chassis as well.
well... ive revised all my plans, i sat down with my dad and we just went over every part...
im gonna start out with a b18c sleeved bored and stroked to 2.2
je pistons
crower rods
probably toda cams
probably twm itb's
440 cc injectors
aem ems
i dont know who i should have do the head yet, probably a big name place like alaniz or portflow that now honda heads really well
dont know about the header yet either...
im taking the car to the chassis builder in a few days so that will be done, then im gonna do all of the tin work in the interior, then off to the paint shop probably...
i think im gonna get the motor within a week or so... definately a gsr block, but probably a b16 head, or a gsr... and a type r tranny maybe... but probably a b16 tranny
now what are your thoughts on my plan? thanks for all of the help though

i forgot about you
i know there are a few people in the boise that have tons of experience... i just dont know any of them..

myself and EKhatch on here.. Both of us are pretty well versed in performance, then theres accvolks that does labour and light engine building. All three of us are in town... for now.
Yeah, we have the know-how. We just don't have the resources to get a complete job done so were still left trying to find a machine shop that knows the tricks of the trade when it comes to building a B-series motor (or any other 4 banger for that matter).
DO NOT got to Meriedian Automotive... they are horrible!!!!!
that's all the help I'm giving for now... If you want more help find me... You know who I am

have you guys tried moffit and bratton... my dad said they are the best automotive machine shop in boise..... i guess the have a ton of experience, but probably not with 4 cyl

thanks JA.... I guess MB is ok... I'd just as soon send the motor out of town to someone that works on 4 cyl all the time...

I have heard a lot of good about Performance Works, people traveling from out of town to get stuff done by Phillip the owner. I got my valve job done there but haven't got the rest of the motor put together yet, sent the block out of town. He has built a lot of stuff for Rory at Idaho Speed Center.
Oh yeah, Performance Works is like 3 months out because he works by himself. He recently got an engine dyno and may get a bellhousing for some 4 bangers if the demand is high enough.
