Default CRX on stilts

I am bolting the roll cage on the white CRX and I didn't want to jack the car up because that always tweaks the frame. So I ended up making bases out of 2X8
and jacked up the car onto them.
There is plenty of room to get under the car and bolt the cage with the frame in its
"normal" position.
Ghetto engineering, but it works.
I didn't feel like digging a trench in the garage

Yes they sure do, but I would have needed 4, $$$$
This costed me $10. that's $2.50 a ramp.

Newbie, the whole point was NOT to use jack stands.
When you set the car on the jack points, you twist the frame. (notice I said twist not bend). I wanted to have the frame as it normally sits on the wheels.
it helps prevent rattles and squeaks once you bolt the cage.

if I were you I'd position the jack stands at each jack point against the cars frame just incase the wood dosn't hold or it slips off somehow

I understand that, I think we had a misunderstanding. I was sugesting using jack stands(4 of them) under your control arms, this way the car still rest on it's suspention points just like it was on it's wheel.... Hey but it's your car and if your brave enough to get under that, Hey good for you!

Just because i am new doesn't mean I know less...

Wow, that looks real safe

Maybe some 6x6s would work better, those are nice and solid.

I would get under that without hesitation. I see no problem with the way you did that.

So what would happen if the car rolls forward or back.. and you're under there? *crunch* *smoosh* I would say... cars do tend to fall off of things.

For those of you worried about the safety of the stands, check out this close up.
There is no way that 500 lbs of pressure will ever break this stand.
I bet this stands could easily handle three times that.
In fact, when I am done, I will take one of them and put it on the shop press.
See what it takes to make it fail.
according to some of you engineer guys, skyscrapers should be solid concrete on the inside, and airplanes should have 3" thick aluminum skins.
it's all in how you design what you are building.

That doesn't explain about the accidental rolling forward or backward of the car.. What if I accidently kicked one of those stilts while I was walking by?

And yes.. Looks like it's lopsided in a way. I'll stick with Jackstands... Either that or I'll let it sit on the ground..

it's an optical illusion, the cut at the end is not square so it looks like it is tilting, but it is not.

About kicking the base off the tires.
it is not my intention to be mean, but please.
If you can accidentally kick one of those stands from under the tires, your skin should be green and you would probably weigh in excess of 400 lbs.
About the car rolling off the stands, not a chance.
the pic doesn't show all the stands, I have 2X2 screwed into the bases on the two wheels that are not seen used as wedges.
I think yes, sure if you are a dumb *** you can screw this up in no time.
Cinder blocks, solid wood it doesn't matter.
The fact is that I got under the car the entire afternoon, did the job, got the car down and here I am writing about it.

lol, how often do you see that?? haha
I used cinder blocks a couple times to do the same tiype of thing, but I put them on the LCA's in the back, and on the front crossmember on the front. I actually trust blocks more than jackstands, cause jackstands are adjustable, so they do have a chance of falling. wood... well i guess it could split, but I dont use blocks with cracks all over them anyways. and I have the jackstands too incase the wood were to crack.
oh well, sounds like u got some good ideas

Why does the car need to be up at all? When I did mine I drilled all the holes with the car on the ground then just bolted it in.
