If I recall correctly, the **** screws off, then you just gotta force it off the boot. It's got like a little plastic retainer clip that keeps it attached to the boot.

The rectangular top of the boot is due to a plastic insert which you have to remove. The shift lever is just threaded at the top, and most aftermarket ***** should screw on or slip over it and are held in place by a few tiny alan screws. I have yet to find a nice way to make the top of the boot to match up nicely to an aftermarket ****.

Yeah like I said I can't find a way to make the boot match up neatly to the ****. My boot has just been sitting right below the **** with threads stickin out and everything for years. Some day I'll find a way to stuff the top of the boot under the metal retaining ring under the ****.

I just put a new shift **** on and had the same problem. So what i did was to take out the center console (very easy at least in my 1991 accord) the pull the boot out from the bottom. Then disconnect the band that hold the plastic thing on. Then pull the top edge of the boot in making a little lip. Then get a zip tie and put it inside the lip. Then put the console back in and tighten the zip tie Make sure the spot where it connects to it self is in the back so it doesnt rub on your hand believe me it will be annoying if it does.

Yeah dude I tried the same thing but there was still a little sliver of the shifter shaft showing between the folded-over top of the boot and the bottom of the ****... mine still looks better if i just leave the boot as is so I goes all the way up to the bottom of the ****.
Is your shaft showing at all?

Buy an aftermarket shift boot... they're cheap and they have REAL nice ones with different color threads and everything.

They even have an S2000 boot you can buy that looks badass.
real leather too.
