Default C's Driver Position Shift review

First thing's first, I have a B18C5 motor with a B16A tranny and Toda flywheel. This setup necessitates some sort of short shifter cause if you just wanna granny around town, the motor will bog a little since the RPM's drop as quickly as they do. So, I talked to Dan and we agreed I should check this thing out. God, I'm glad I did (no pun intended, Dan). I picked up the adjustable one and had some trouble with the japanese instructions but eventually, we figured it out. When all was said and done, all I can say is that I never thought my tranny would ever shift like it does now. The throws are pretty short, I'd say about 30-40% shorter than stock, with a position higher and angled more towards the driver than stock. I can adjust it left/right as well, but centered seems just fine to me. This is a damned fine shifter folks. The throws are very crisp and solid, finding a gear is absolutely no problem even with the shortened throw. Its not like most of the other short shifters on the market that make the tranny feel notchy and clumsy. Sure, it cost damn near 4x as much as the others on the market but I've yet to buy cheap **** for this car and I certainly wasn't gonna cheap out on a shifter. I topped it off with the Skunk2 **** and I am in gearchange heaven . Thanks a bunch for the shifter Dan, a very good idea indeed. Peace, EV.

I'll get one as soon as Dan gets another in stock, there's no way I'm puttin a boot over this sonofabitch... i almost wanted to hang it on the wall rather than defile it by actually using it :-p. Peace, EV.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't it be easier to miss shift if you have a shorter throw? That is the only reason that is stopping me from getting a short shifter.

That is the god of all shifters... no wonder... you got it from.... god.

I have the skunk **** too. But mine discolored where my hand sits... skunk says they are reformulating the finish but it'll cost 10 bucks to trade up to the new finish.

Bastards.

george,

my previous car was an '00 civic si, so i can comment on the differences:

1. the ratios of both trannies are practically identical (aren't they? i think so)
2. the si's shifter throws felt about 15% longer than the ITR shifter.
3. the stock ITR shifter is a LOT tighter (better bushings?) feeling than the si shifter.
4. the stock ITR shifter seems a tiny bit shorter in length/height than the si shifter.

i had put a short shifter in my si, and that helped dramatically. i'm pretty much content with the ITR's shifter, but if i was to get one, the C's is the one i would get. the adjustibility looks amazing!

fwiw, i think the trannies are basically the same, except for the shifters.

my $0.02....

1st gear in a b16 is shorter than a itr. final drive is the same (4.4). b16 abd itr trannies differ somewhat internally. you can see that when u compare part numbers. for example, you can't put an itr lsd into a b16 tranny... housing's too big or something like that.

can someone else back me up?

Actually to install the ITR C's in the Si you need the ITR linkage which was included with Todd's shifter so he has essentially a Type R shifter mechanism as well. Yes the ITR shifter is a bit different but all the parts that make it different were swapped out by Todd anyway so his review would be applicable to any of the ITR's as well. Personally I like the C's shift ****. Very nice indeed but also a LOT more than the Skunk shift **** or even a Momo which is what I'm using.

The guy, his name is dave, said they're still working on it, but you can contact them through their website, http://www.skunk2.com

I'm pissed offf though, I mean this is pretty much a defective item and they want me to PAY to get one that won't wear out? I've only had the now for 4 months... it tarnished within 1 month!

Dan, if you are referring to the Revolver II, it looks kinda funky in person. I'm still trying to find one of the old Revolver *****.

Dan,
Is benjimin right in saying that the ITR LSD wont fit an Si tranny?
This is somewhat relevent to me considering I am looking to buy one.

Thanks

Electron, You are a VERY lucky man. Enjoy the shifter. I aspire to owning one one day

PS-- got any pictures?

Dan

That is corect, the ITR LSD will NOT work on the Si transmission and you don't want one anyway, it sucks.

Yes, a fact that most people like to ignore. Also, if you have a short shifter, it doesn't necessarily make you shift faster. You should only shift as fast as the synchros are willing to let you shift. Any faster and you'll cause abnormal wear. I think the ITR shifter is great from the factory, and just needed some bushings to really make it nice. That's all I did, and I'm happy now.

When I had the S4 though, oooh momma. That was like rowing a boat. Got a nice 20% reduction shifter, and it felt quite reasonable. Still longer than a stock ITR throw, but felt pretty reasonable.

I've had my C's Short Stroke (not as $$$ as EVs DPS) for almost a year, and I have yet to miss a shift.

Thanks a lot Dan,

What would u recommend for an LSD for my SI. It is a daily driver that will start to see increasing auto-x and track days come next spring.

Thanks

Go Quaife.... I'm starting to regret the frequent oil changes required on the Kaaz I have..otherwise....performance is great..... sorta win/lose situation.....

Otherwise I would go with the ITR one if you can find one at a good price..used or something.... cuz ANY LSD is better than NO LSD.....

I like clutch type LSD becaise of it's aggressiveness but Quaife may be better for street folks that just want a mild upgrade.

TIA

Go with the ATS Cabon LSD, they are the funk, just ordered the carbon unit, they are very expensive, but I think is worth the money. Thinking about getting the ATS carbon clutch set with flywheel.

btw, y u buy the skunk2 **** when u have the titanium one?
i thought only the poor canadians (like me) need to swap the leather shift ****
anyway, thx a lot for the info!

You didn't specifically ask me but I thought I'd chime in another good word for Quaife diffs. They're very well made and would be well suited to your needs. And it just so happens Import Specialists has them on sale.

Well, I've felt a few short shifters and absolutely none of them feel like the stock throw. The C's in either variety DOES. In fact, it feels much better than stock, I dont have the throw THAT much shorter than stock and i did it because on a slow shift, the car would bog since the Toda fly let the revs drop so quickly. It wasn't just a matter of hey, i want a cool new toy so I'm gonna go by the most expensive shifter I can find. I wanted somethin that could adapt to the way I sit since the stock position felt awkward to *me*. I can have some pics shortly, maybe Friday or so. I apologize if anyone feels this isn't relevant but I posted it here because of all the owners, the "R" owners tend to take their cars a little more seriously than most and wouldn't jump out and buy the Tenzo Short Shifter when importparts.com puts it on sale for $1.25. So, I figured if anyone would care about this shifter, it would be you guys. My apologies if it was mis-posted. EV.
