Ok my ecu is throwing a code 16 and 17. 16 is injector which is no worry because MPFI is going in next week. But code 17, VSS, has me stumped. My hanes book says nothing about it and the online factory manuel says take it to a dealer. Where is this little bitch located and how much does a new one cost?
PS: Car is a 90 Civic Std. with no mods, just a bad VSS i guess

Check to be sure your speedo cable is secure in the tranny. Then check the back of the gauge cluster to be sure its in good there too. If you dont know where on the tranny it is its the only cable running to the tranny, trace it from the firewall.

99% of the time its one of those 2, also its possible for the cable to break but I've got 2 cars over 175k and have yet to have that happen. Its very rare for the VSS itself to drop into the tranny, its bolted in pretty good plus if it did actually drop your tranny would most likely be gone. As for the avatar I'm pretty sure he/she was just dropped in there for kicks.

 

ya i only get the CEL when down shifting so i'm thinking now that sence the engine is moving forward it's jiggling the cable loose. I wish i could get one of my cats to do that, but their all too big now... maybe a gatoraid bottle
