Well, it's about time for me to get rid of those piece of sh*t OEM Michelins that came with my gsr. I'm seriously considering getting a set of Yokohama AVS ES100's. Here's my question though, should I get them in 195/55/15 or should I get 205/50/15? I know alot of you out there have the 205's, but is it safe? Will it seriously affect the gauges? Please give me some replies. I appreciate it.

 

A 205/50 and a 195/55 have very close to the same outside diameter, so don't worry about your speedo. Hell, the factory speedo's are off by as much as 10% from the factory anyways.

Don't even consider the 195's. Just get the 205's and enjoy the better handling. Plus, the 205 is usually a cheaper tire as well.

 

It's safe. No effect on the gauges since it's basically the same overall diameter. Slightly less direct steering feel in exchange for more grip. I'd recommend this size. Good choice on the ES100's, too.

They'll fit, but it will look kind of weird, IMO. That's a pretty tall sidewall. Why do you need something taller?

 

As already stated, just get the 205/50/15's..........I recently got rid of the stock tires and put some new ones (Dunlop SP Sport A2's 205/50/15) on the stock rims and love it........throw the speedo off by like 1MPH at 60MPH.....there is a formula to figure it out how far off it makes the odometer and speedo, but I don't remember what it is......but it is not enough to really worry about.

 

i have 205/50/15 almighty Azenis and they run purrfect. i actually like that added width..seems to add a little stability.

 

try 195/50/15.

 

Not every tire in a particular size is the same actual diameter as another make or model tire in that size.

ES100 205/50-15 is pretty close to OEM Michelin diameter, around 0.5% smaller.

 

dam i need to get rid of my OEM michelins also... i hydroplane with them when it's wet out and i still have at least 50% tread left... scary ****!...i was thinking about the michelin pilot sports or the bridgestone SO-3

 

dang, i guess im the only crackhead dumb enough to throw on 185/65 r14s on mine. at least theyre free.

Hey Acuraholic,

The reason I went with that size is that my car is not lowered, with a 205/50/15 my car looks funny with a big gap between the sidewalls. As long as my tires don't explode or anything, I'm happy with the tires. Thanks for the input.

 

i had 205/50 15's on my car at stock ride height, i thought it looked pretty good.

 

Why not get 16" rims then?

Or just get Yokohama Avid H4, they are nice for street with more grip

Don't lower profile tires offer more steering feel? It's a bad example, but I can feel what's going on much better with my 205/50-15 712s than with my 195/60-14 snows. I know the snows are softer, but still...

The only downside to low profile tires on my Teg would have to be the tramlining.

 

205/50/15s will look fine at stock ride height, I rocked it like that for a couple months on my car before lowering it. 205s make the car a lot more stable, esp. the rear...
