Magnecor Plug wires...good?......price?
I want to replace my OEM plug wires because they are 7+ years old and have 111K on them. Are the worth the price? Anyone see them around for a good price?
Thanks!
Thanks!
I have Magnacores, I like them, on that note dont get them. Stick with stock or NGK's. The Magnacores are huge and floppy, they are a bitch to get to stay in and I want some NGK's anyways.
I have magnecors and I use the stock wires now. The magenecors do NOT stay on the spark plugs OR the distributor. They have come off in traffic for me many times and make me think I blew my motor or something.
Stay away from them.

Mine acutually stays on the motor and distributor very well. But if you have a stock motor (internally) then just go with NGK or stock.
Used the Magnecors before...good wires, not so good at staying on the distributor cap. Right now I'm using MSD wires and they fit great and haven't had any problems with them coming off or anything like that. I was able to use my stock wire separators with these so it looks factory. I would recomend these.
i have magnecor 10mm r-100 (got them for $80 in 1995). you'll never see anything more ridiculous. now i know why i've seen pics of magnecors with a freakin zip ties around each dist end plug. when one pops off as you blast away from a stoplight it will scare the living **** out of you as you bog, then limp towards the edge of the road on three cylinders sounding like a vw bus with no exhaust. can't understand why the company can't seem to engineer a wire that stays on the distributor - seems like an important feature for plug wires... i've made minor adjustments that seems to help a little but i make sure i check them once a week and push them back on. maybe they fixed this eventually? when i dump these, i'm getting moroso. i think they're around $55. be aware that they don't come in black so some jack-booted thug from the anti-rice gestapo will probably lable you "ricey" as you won't be in compliance with their master list.
I never had problems with them coming off but they only lasted about a year then i would have misfire problems.
I use MSD now and they are great.

I just replaced my toasted stock wires with some NGK's and was very pleased with the replenishment of performance. They dont fit PERFECTLY, but are damn close.
Ive also heard lots of problems from magnecor, and also seen some poorly fitting MSD boots.

I just replaced my Magnecors cause they always slipped off the plugs. IMO-these wires are total crap. I have had great luck with Vitek or Nology both of these use stock style boots for a perfect fit.
aftermarket wires are all for show, best wires are stock ones... you want a better spark get better plugs, and an aftermarket distributor...
but wires are just for looks.

Well You guys turned my against magnecor because I dont want my crap popping off! So.... give my some info on the NGKs or MSDs. Price, which ones, Where!!!
Thanks
PS
In my GSR I went to copper plugs and am VERY pleased. However, I think my weak link may be my plugs and/or distributor.
Thanks

damn..i was about to get some magnecores...thanx for all the feedback. now i kno i aint gonna get those pieces of shxt....well what do u guyz think about the nologys? any feedback on them?
I have zip ties around each of my magnacore wires so the stay on the dist. cap. I pound them in with the butt of a soft mallet and they tend to stay. I am gonna get some NGK's I think.
Nology makes good wires, as theyre the only ones with built in capacitors. Also why theyre so expensive...Id try and find a used set if you could, b/c its just ridiculous to pay that much for wires.
i have magnecore's and they do tend to pop off once in a while. i heard that nology also suck ***. why pay more than $120 for wires??? stick with stock, mds, or ngk.
Stock wires are best. They fit perfect.
I have no personal experience with Nology, but the concept doesn't really make sense. If there's already a ground for the engine, a ground on the tranny, and a ground on the thermostat housing, why would you need four more grounds coming off your plugwires?

here a hot tip:
make sure you shut off the engine before reattaching the magnecor plugs to the distributor unless you like playing with small bolts of lightning plus you'll feel really stupid.

I have Nology now and I will never go back to any other brand! I feel comfortable putting these on and NOT having to worry about any slippage. If you are mostly stock then stock wires should be fine. But if you are using an aftermarket ignition system (MSD 6AL) then the extra 5mm in wire diameter can flow more spark. If your looking for extra hp from a set of wires, good luck. The thing I noticed was an extra 5 mpg, I went from 12 miles city to 17 city and from 18 highway to 23 mpg highway. Also you will notice improved throttle response.
Well to throw more fuel on the fire. I also have magacor wires on my gsr. The seal is horrible around the spark plug holes. I am planning on cleaning my engine bay soon and I am really worried that water might seap its way past the magnacor wires and into the spark plug holes!!!
And yes, they did pop off on me once!

i have magnacor wires and they never popped on me..... but geez, i don't think it really did any good either, i'd say if i were to get another set of wires i'd get NGK to match my NGK spark plugs
and save money while i'm at it
