intake 0.15-0.19mm {.006-.007}
exhaust 0.17-0.21mm {.007-.008}
If you set it to spec and it is still noisy,check the "lost motion assemblies"
It is a common problem for them to go bad.

not just common, its an absolute eventuality... especially on first gens. i've yet to hear one that didn't sound like a typewriter, its always a dead giveaway to the venerable B under the hood.

It is like a shock absorber for the vtec lobes rocker when it is not engaged.

do you have to remove the valve spring or retainer to be able to change the lost most assemblies.

I don't believe so. Just pull off the valvetrain assembly and they should be easily removable by using a magnet. Pop the magnet onto the top of them and pull them straight out from the head.
