Default torque specs for the valvecover bolts. help!!

i just re-painted my valvecover and just wanted to know what are the torque specs for the valve cover. i did a search i came up with nothing.

if you search through here they have like three pages of all the torque specs on the car (4th gen). i just printed out a copy and keep it in my tool box/shed.

That thread is talking about adjusting the valves - he's just tightening the valve cover nuts.

I believe torque specs for those is like 7.8 ft/lbs., something like that - not much at all. If you look at them funny, they will strip - so go really easy on them.

it 7.8 ft-lb not inch-lbs! not 14!! you'll strip them at 14. should be just enough to compress the rubber bushing on the seals but not enough to fully tighten them

uh oh..id better go out and loosen up my valve cover bolts then..i was told there's no spec on them so i just tightened them down hard.

by the way, there is such thing as inch-pounds..

Yep, last week I snapped a headstud on my VW Beetle b/c I didnt pay attention...84 in/lbs is NOT the same as 84 ft/lbs!!!

Just thinking, an inch pound would be a heck of a lot less force (considering the less leverage) comparing it against a ft/lb. Here's a quite search turned up.
