Default Question - 81.5mm TODA Pistons w/std HG - safe on pump gas?

Hi all,

Just a quick question, I performed a search, but just want to be sure.

A friend of mine is building up a JDM B18C for his EG9 (yes, we live in New Zealand, yes, it's JDM). He's just purchased a TODA 81.5mm o/s piston kit, and is having worries about running the car on pump gas as per the compression ratio stated on the TODA site. He plans to run JDM ITR cams, TODA cam gears, Eagle Rods, and skunk2 springs/retainers. He's going to balance the rods, crank, and flywheel once the motor's apart. The head is completely standard, bar a Mugen HG, which will be swapped for a standard one.

According to the TODA site, the o/s pistons are 12.4:1 with the standard 0.6mm HG.

We use 96RON fuel here, 98RON available, but the difference is minimal. From my search, it seems that a lot of guys here seem to use these pistons with the std HG, with no problems. However - what octane fuel do you guys have over there? I think Australia has similar octane ratings to us, do any Aussie guys here use the TODA pistons here, std HG, and on pump gas? Any issues?

Do you think he will have a problem with knocking if he keeps his standard HG, or do you reccomend changing it to a 0.8mm or 1mm HG? I think he'll be fine - or am I wrong? Sorry for all the questions - I haven't yet owned a B-series powered Honda, so my experience is fairly limited when it comes to this.

Thanks in advance.

stock headgasket will be fine, 12.4:1 is good for 93 out here, even better for you cuz u get 96/98 octane. if yur friend is worried about compression, tell him to go with some Spec B's or C's for relieve some of that compression and get a good tuner. tuning is the key, good luck
