Crx with Ati harmonic balancer problems
Well heres a small update, I dropped the new motor into the crx tonite and my big fear came true
, the Ati wont clear. I was originally concerened that it wouldnt clear the frame rail ,and that came true as far as installation went. I dropped the motor in with just the smaller hub pressed onto the crank snout and that barely gave us enough room to get it in without hitting it on the framerail. We actually had to drop the motor down on the drivers side till it was low enough below the rail to slip on the balancer part of the pully. We then raised it back into place and much to my surprise there was just enough room to clear the outer mounting bolts.(next time the motor goes in from the bottom). Well that wasnt the clearance problem afterall, the problem is that it sits to close to my z10 traction bars/crossover
. If i\I hit one bump it's going to smash into the radius rod....so now I have to pull the motor back out to remove the pully hub and balancer.
Hese some pics i snapped.(and shameless plug)

any motor i pull/put in will go in from the bottom from now on. its much easier and you have less of a chance of breaking any sensors!
what pulley are you going to run now tom? i would just keep it simple and get a stock honda one (one that has a harmonic balancer) and put that on. who needs the ATI one????

If it was my decision, i would ditch the Z10 bars or look into custom bars that would clear the dampener... i know z10 made custom bars for greg that would clear his Hytech...
You will see better performance from the dampener than the radius arms... there are plenty of race and or street cars that dont have the radius arms that are cutting good 60' 's...

Yes the pully has the altenator groove.
The car is slighly lowered , so I hope in rasing it back to stock height it will yeild some more clearance.
I will look into other crossmember setups as well. Can anyone here with the Jimfab bars measure the distance between the radius arm and the framerail itself?
I can't run a stock crossmember as my Smsp header wont clear it.

Bone, you have some of the craziest problems man !!!
in case you're interested, call Rob @ Z10 and ask for the custom CRX bars used in my car ... those should clear nicely, but not sure how Dave's headers cleared them before, My HyTech was custom bent to fit around the torsion bar whcih were both lowered to the max allowed in order not to come out the "axis circle"

I'm not running a side exit because this is still a street car, so I dont think I'll have the same issues you had with yours Greg. Does the new kit you have move the radius arms out more towards the framerail?
Here's a pic of the old setup for header reference.

I spoke with Jimmy at z-10 and all I can say is that there customer service is 100%.(not to mention one smart dude)
He has alredy come up with a fix and will set up his cnc to make me the needed parts for next week
Let's hope it will work

pfffffffffff,
you and your freaky problems.
why dont you just use that LS motor I got ya?!!!!
nice looking setup but you had better get it on the road man!
and why the ATi damper... didnt you have the rotating assembly balanced anyways?

I'm a sucker who beleives in secodary crank harmonics and the damage they can do. Yes it was balanced as well.(without the pully on).
That ls is still on the dolly we put it on when we took it off your passenger seat of your cx..lol

So,
1) how many passes or miles or what will the motor see
2) when would you think the motor would see crank harmonic imbalance issues WITHOUT the ATi dampener?
3) I figured by now you would have looked into that LS motor to at least make sure it RUNS! My 1 hour / 1 mile (whichever first) warranty expired a long time ago.
So when is the CRX gonna run?!?!??!

I agree ... try putting a couple of belly dancers in front of Jimmy and see how much quicker he can work
