Default Wiring a sub & amp

I have a sub & amp just lying around and was wondering what I need to install it in my car? Do I need one of those kits or can I just run RCA cables from the stereo to the amp and get it working?

You can either buy the kit or buy parts seperately.. Here's what you'll need

4-8 guage power wire to run from battery to amp location
8-10 guage ground wire to go from amp to any ground location
1 inline fuse for postive lead
1 set of RCA cables
1 12 guage or so wire for the remote turn-on lead
and last but not least, speaker wire

It's much cheaper to but the kit that has it all than to buy separaly (grrrr spelling) 8awg is acceptable up to 400w amp anything above you should use a 4 and then a 2.
