Default Company names... is this all they are?

I have been starting to look into a few products for my 93 si. While looking at parts there have been many people who have told me that a lot of the parts you buy are all made from the same manufacturer. Other companies then buy these parts and then stick their name on them. I'm talking about such products as short shifters, coil overs, and there have been others. Is there any truth in this? My main purchases that I have been thinking about are a short shfter, and coilover. If anyone has any insight in this please let me know.

Absolutely. It's like that in many different fields. Car audio is a good example.

It seems more prevalant in the lower end products though. Especially seleve style adj. springs, I bet a couple types are sold under 20 names. It very common with car parts, even cars....

no they arent the same, i mean say you take a tokico HP shock and a cheep *** ebay shock, they arent gonna be the same, like everyone says you pay for what you get

if its cheap its crap, if its pricey its quality

on the short shifter part, well a SS is an SS its pretty much the bushing at the bottom that really matters

Well, there is 3 against 1 here... hmmm... I guess what I'm really looking at is if there is any difference between short shifters?

Stay away from the cheap ebay short shifters. Junk, they come loose, they flex. These are the ones that go for 10-20 bucks on Ebay. I just got the skunk2 single bend today, and its a very nice unti, and only 100 bucks from nopionline.com.

Get an eBay special short shifter. All of mine have worked great. On the other hand, my friend snapped his DC Sports

I say stick with big name brands that have a reputation to protect.
B+M, Hurst, DC, Stillen, etc.
But my friend has an APC short shifter in his teg. He says it was like $20-25.00 and it still works great so, go figure.
Just my.02 cents.

Well, I don't know how that guys friend snapped his DC in half! Must have been trying to shift w/o useing the clutch. hehe j/k I've been trying to research it and it seems that the key feature on the more expensive ones are the bearings that are used. I presonally bought a DC sports for my 99 ex and I love it. Think that I'll just stick with what worked for me. Just don't like spending the $$.
