Default Update & How-To: Remove paint from interior pieces.

Here's my original story. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=574493

Okay. Lots of people suggested brake fluid. Since I had two containers of it, I decided to try it.

First some before pics for those who don't want to click on the original post.

After soaking them in brake fluid for around a hour for each piece. I used these dull scissors to scrape away the paint. Didn't scratch the pieces much. I probably could have used my fingernails if I wasn't being so lazy.

I'm currently soaking the vents, which should be pretty easy to wipe down afterwards. There's a little paint still around the screw hole of the door handles, but i probably won't be able to see it once the screw is in.

As for the bigger parts, I suppose if I had a big bucket or something to soak them in it would work fine, but I'll probably just buy new pieces. That's all for now. Each piece needed to be scraped & wiped down for about 15 minutes each after soaking them. Better than buying new pieces.

Is aircraft remover too harsh for plastics or something?

I was informed by other H-T members that paint thinner would damage the plastic. After letting the vents sit in brake fluid for a hour, the paint easily wiped off. The other pieces were a little more difficult, but only because I didn't soak them as long.

I soaked the vents in before I went to work today, 2pm, came home, 8pm, and literally wiped the paint off. Brake fluid

yeah, it does.. i was gonna help a friend take some paint off the interior parts so we tried spraying aircraft stripper on there and it warped it after it settled into the plastic. (on a test piece of painted abs)

it worked on all the small pieces

door handle trims
vents
armrest pockets
defogger vents

i guess i'll have to replace the rest because they're too big to soaked

the best paintstripper for plastic out there is "Castrol Super Clean: cleaner and degreaser".

trust me, i know this since im only 16 and have been into building models for a few years.

just put your pieces into a tub of this stuff for a few hours, and then take a toothbrush and scrub away the paint, and it wont harm the plastic at all.

just make sure to use gloves whil touching the CSC b/c it can harm your exposed skin, and best thing is, its cheap for a big tub of this stuff, and the CSC is re-usable

would be alot easier and quicker if you just repainted them to stock color.

I think it's simplier to soak them in brake fluid overnight and wipe the paint off, but they may be an option for the other pieces

Brake fluid, or nitro RC gas will work better and it dry's fast. RC hobby tips 0wN j00 and m33. They seriosly do help me a lot of the time.
