Most ITRs seem to be stolen around NY, NJ, Toronto, and Montreal right? These are all within a few hundred miles of each other aren't they?

And they're obviously professional thieves (lojack, car alarms, killswitches, garages, etc doesn't stop them).

Are there any aftermarket shops located around that area that sells "new" type-r engines.

you have to keepin mind that the NY/NJ area has the densest population per area in the country, not to mention a good R population...many to steal, easy to sell on the black market...

 

Yes. Toronto seems to be a very bad place if you have an R. Mine has been lucky, only been broken into 3 FRICKEN times. Anyhow, I now use a steering wheel club, a Auto-Lock and a Viper alarm. (Takes me 15 FRICKEN minutes to get in and out of my car - I hate it!)

Not to mention I have to arm the car alarm in my own garage... its a Damn Shame. Fricken Hybrid M@#@#FO's.

Anyhow I wanted to ask, does the AutoLock Work... Or is it a scam?

 

This is not some "international" band of thieves. C'mon get real. Each urban area has it's own Honda/Hybrid element which is the MAIN reason ITR/GSR/SI's get stolen, plain and simple. Lest we forget ITR owners are not the only ones that get victimized. My GSR was stolen 3 and a half years ago with a top of the line Clifford alarm, the club, hoodlock and fuel cut off. The conclusion I came to, was keeping my Honda cars out of sight. Which would be the only way to keep 'em, and its what I do. When dealing with ignorant, jealous people that steal cars. You have to strike harder than they do.

I carry a baseball bat in my R. If I even think I'm being followed by ricers I pull over and get out of the car with my bat. Don't believe me? Just ask the guys from this board that know me personally. I will crack a thief/ricers skull without hesitation if I see them following me or near my car. I could care less about being "politically correct", **** with my **** and die. Plain and ******* simple!!!

Just ask the owner of a certain 4 civic what happened to his windshield when I came out of Target and his friend and him were all up on my R. He definetly needed a new windshield and a pair of unsoiled boxer shorts! I sent those pussies runnning with a bashed in windshield. I have a VERY short temper.

First of all, the guys I walked up on, were trying to open my car door. So when I saw them they backed off and pretended that they were merely admiring my car. As soon as I got in my car I grabbed my bat and chased them to their car and bashed the windshield on their ricey 4 door Civic. Those pussies were not armed, and I too have a sidearm, but dont PUBLICLY advertise it, catch my drift. Dont forget where I live. Bat first, sidearm is plan B.

Have any of you thought of organized crime like the Hell's Angels? I wouldn't baseball bat any of those guys if I was you. They are going to get your car if they can see it and if they want it, period. Nothing you can do about it.

Best thing is to realize that it's just a heap of metal and plastic that can be replaced. Protect it the best you can - but it's definitely nothing to die over or get a felony assault charge from....

 

Hey guys you be interested to know that there is a shop in your area, Montreal, Quebec that sells honda motors! I would be very suspicious of them. I checked out their inventory and they haven't displayed any b18c5 blocks on their web site.

NY isn't that bad as long as you stay out of the way and keep your Honda car under lock & key. Midwest cities like Cleveland and Detroit have more gun violence than NYC does. Canada is more peaceful, but it seems that ITR theft is a MAJOR problem up there too.

"Hells Angels"!? ROTF LMAO!!! ha ha ha. Those dudes are scared of us man. What are you talking about? The Angels aren't even a shadow of their former selves. I'd be more worried about Italians and Puerto Ricans that HA's! Organized crime rings in this area dont bother with car theft. There's no money in it as far as they're concerned. It's mainly young guys that run import chop shops.

 

YEAH, violent crime in NYC has really decresed in the last ten years. I guess Giulianni and the booming economy were the main reasons.

Having lived in both NYC and Vancouver, I'd say theft is still a bigger issue in NYC. There are way too many places you can't go with an ITR in NYC. And if your ITR is stolen in NYC, you can basically count on never seeing it again. In Vancouver, there's lots of theft, but it tends to be more for accessories and stuff. But same thing applies, you can't park at schools, malls, movies, etc. But that applies everywhere with Type Rs!

 

This ITR thing is getting out of hand.
Just last week, I was going to drop off my wife at work on my GSR (usually, we drive the Altima when we carpool), my white GSR is pretty much stock except for OEM body kit. Anyway, an ITR was in front of me, I was NOT following the car but he happened to turn where I had to and all of a sudden, he did a 180 degrees on fairly busy street, burned rubber, dogged me and raised his hands as if like he was saying "why the **** are you following me" stare.
Goddamn, I was not following him, If I want an ITR, I can buy one if I want to, not steal it, and NO, I was not following him.
This guy was just too paranoid. My wife was like, "do you know him?" "what's his problem?"

I know the Boston area sure sucks! I personally have spoken to three "former" R owners (one has bought one again) and they all had their car stolen in or around Boston. I have personally had my Si stolen TWICE!! in Boston. Both times I got it back with about 9k damage and the engine was not removed. It depends on the thief but it's a shame that you have to be this careful if you own a Honda.

 

I've got a plan I'm working on with the NYPD. I can't discuss the specifics (unless I know you personally) but I can assure some HA thieves will be netted.

If you can't take care of them on your own, become a cop.

 

The real problem are the hybrid people with fat wallets. My co-workers 91 civic with 280,000 miles finally died. He called the local junkyard and they can replace his engine for $1500, or for $4,900 they offered a GSR engine with computer, transmision, and everything needed to do the swap.

If they get that for a GSR, I imagine a type-r engine and trani goes for around $7,000. Easy money. Plus you could sell the wheels, dash, suspension, brakes. I imagine the car thieves make 10-15k parting out a stolen R.

And what it comes down to is, if there wasn't a market for it (hybrid owners), the prices wouldn't be so high, and they wouldn't be worth stealing.

 

jond, I think you're a little off with your facts. No established, legitimate junkyard will sell you a stolen motor. If they do, their days in business are numbered. You see, the high asking price these junkyards have is because the motor IS legit. On the H/A black market, a full ITR swap (motor & tranny, ECU, etc.) will cost about $2500. Remember now, were talking about a stolen motor here not a legit one. Legit ITR motors can ussually be had for about $5k. The only problem is that they're very hard to find. All the "JDM" mumbo jumbo is crap! If you do actually locate a "JDM" motor it will most likely be abused and very expensive. Some places like Bfast, sell legitimate 180 hp JDM GSR crate motors (brand ******* new) for $3500. These motors come directly from NZ and are complete from valve cover to oil pan. No tranny or ECU included. That is a hybriders best bet.

The import scene is full of petty, little, jealous snakes. That will try and befriend you just to scheme on your car. I make it very clear to all that know me personally. We can be friends, but if I even suspect you're shady I'll let you know to your face. Then we can deal with it like grown men. Which is something most ***** azz thieves dont know about. I've warned potential crooks with stuff like. "I know where your wife and kids stay". Are they worth a type R?
