My friend is gonna swap his motor soon to a B18C1 and gonna sell his old one for around $300. Although it may sound like a direct bolt in it dosen't look that way. The motor mounts are in the general vicinity of the 87's engine bay but it dosent look like it will drop in without a mount kit. Anybody have any knowledge on such a swap?

B18C1 in an 87 Civic. Won't work with stock mounts. You need either Hasport or Place Racing B series swap. The most common way to find these are for the 1G CRXs (84-87). Have fun.

 

Thx for the reply but I think you miss read my post. He's droppin a GSR engine in his EF hatch so I might possibly buy his old motor. I may buy his old D series motor (not sure which one exactly, has TBI [throttle body injection], if this swap would be easy, feasible, and financially sound. Easy meaning, "ya it'll bolt right in with a few minor modifications if any modifications at all." Feasible and financialy sound meaning. "You dont have to go buy a motor mount kit for more than you paid for the motor."

His Car: 89 Civic Hatch 1.5 SOHC TBI w/ Si Tranny

His motor also has some minor good stuff about it. New timing belt. aftermarket intake unknown brand, AEM sprocket, new rebuilt half-shafts, and he dosen't drive his car hard.

 

That's not going to be a simple bolt-in swap. If it were, you'd see all kinds of 84-87 Civic/CRX's running around with D16a6's and such in them.

 

No-one makes a mount kit for that, so you would have to build your own. I'd be curious to see the results if you do it though!
