Two H22's for sale...which one seems like the better idea for me?
Option 1: 97 H22a4 USDM Full engine, 5 speed from a non sh, and a 97 ecu out of an sh. 40,000 miles.
Option 2: 99 H22a4 USDM full engine, no tranny, and no ecu. 97,000 miles.
Both are auctions so there is no deffinitive price for either one yet. Im in no rush to get the engine in my 2000 Accord so if I can get the 99 engine now would the tranny and ecu cost much later on? If I could snag the 99 for $1000 would that be a decent deal in anyone's mind? What would you pay for these two engines both seem to be in decent condition. Thanks everybody.

Id go for one with less miles. But you can go to hmotors and get one with under 40000miles for $1200 so why do either of those. It doesnt come with tranny but the accord tranny will bolt up or get another tranny later. I wouldnt spend $1000 for the 99. Plus the one i got was jdm, not USDM. It was around $1350 shipped. Just look for the longblock or look at the whole swap it ya want it.
the low mileage option is probably the best idea, that way you dont have to redo all the internals on that motor anytime soon, as long as you know these motors are the true mileage for sure, some people who advertise mileage arent always so honest, take that into consideration, the other thing i would also suggest is that if you own a 2000, what kind of mileage do you have on your existing tranny? is it working well? any problems? if none of the above, then do the hmotors deal and get the entire longblock (no tranny) and switch it out, this is based of course on the fact that your existing car is also a 5spd, uhm, lets see, stay away from Osaka, just make sure everything is compatible, or you'll be in trouble...i dont know if this helped, if it didnt, talk to Kteller8, he knows his ****! send him a message, i bother him on the daily, so he is definetly cool!

hahaha definetly not a bother, keeps me on my toes, never know whats up:
if your going to get the longblock, how long will you plan to use your F series tranny: yes they bolt up, but ill tell you, you will get tired of the long gears fast, unless you plan to boost.
Remember the milage is rough numbers, never exact on most motors: USDM are good cause you have a bit more of a sense of feel to true milage.
what i mean, is if you were in jdm land and dumping your motor at 30-40k, how good would you make sure it was 100% taken care of? Oil change all the time? doubt it, i ve seen this day in and day out with motors...

Ive only got 36,000 miles on my car so far. And I actually do plan on replacing all the internals no matter what for big boost numbers so the milage of the engine is no big deal. How much would I expect to pay for a decent h22 tranny and ecu latter on down the road? Basically all I really want is an OBDII engine usdm or jdm doesnt matter to me because the engine is going to get pulled apart and built for a turbo.
you will need new ECU asap:
F series is SOHC
h series is Dohc
Two different mind sets right there, plus i dont knw if yours is vtec or not...
if your goign to replace the internals, do like me, find a older h22: i am looking at a 93 h22 and hey, 93-95 is a bit better most will say cause is closed deck, better for boost: they will be a tab cheaper then anything super knew: Your going to drop about 1500 on parts and labor to rebuild it, if not more, save where you can:

lack of many "emmision features added to that motor"
96+ they have a lot more "earth safe" Items
not only that, but the ecu to run that 00 will have a anti theft immobilzer in it, so if you want to use it . it would have to be shipped off and worked on to have it removed: not worth it in my thoughts.
Plus to get a 00 h22 : i would then look for a decent milage motor: Cause if its only 3 years old and has 77+k on it.. think of this:
1- how hard was it run? to have so many miles so fast?
2- uhh its all hwy miles you say? lol, well do you stop on a hwy to have oil changes? no, it was then run 10k over the normal limit very often , so then its was beat to hell, like a cheerleader at a stag party

Yeah I see your point and I live in Louisiana so Emmisions don't seem to be checked around here ever. Holy crap I have to go to work now but Ill send you an IM later on to see what engines yall have in stock..thanks for the help Kteller8
The fact that you are tearing down the motor and rebuilding it for a turbo application you should buy the cheapest one you can find. Mileage makes no difference in this case.
You'll want to do an OBD1 conversion anyway to keep headaches at a minimum with some kind of management Hondata, AEM, Motec etc
Why do you want to start with an OBD2 h22a? If its from a 5th gen lude then it is open deck and will have to be decked anyway, so why not start with a cheaper, stronger OBD1 closed-deck motor?
You're worried about problems doing an OBD1 conversion but you want to fully build a motor with a turbo? lol, an OBD1 conversion is the least of your problems
Do not use an f22 tranny whether you are turbo or not. Its not good for anything but economy.

Thank you once again Nick M for telling me what I needed to hear. I wasnt planning on using the F series tranny for anything other than a paper weight. Now all I need to find is a cheap OBDI h22...anyone here in Louisana who doesn't want theirs?? I think I might need to talk to Kteller8 again. Thanks people

Awesome I'll have to email him. How hard would it be to find random parts such as the head, ecu, ect.? I would be really happy if I get just a bare block because I was just thinking, what's the point of buying a whole engine if all I want to do is rebuild with new parts?? That would seem like a big waste of money. I suppose it would be good to have all the small random items like hoses and bolts but ohh well. Thanks for the info Ill find out from your guy what year the engine is and go from there..thanks alot.
Lip, can you email me at sam187p@hotmail.com some information on the h22's you've got.
Basic stuff like year produced and what happened to the engine for it to be scraped. And just to make sure are we talking Bare block and head?...no pistons, crank, valves, cams...etc. Any pictures at all would be appreciated as well. Thanks for your time.

they are complete long blocks. high mileage needing rebuilds due to blow by (rings)possibly valve seals etc. email dan at dan@rcrewracing.com and tell him Jeff Taylor (lip) sent you. as of yesterday he said he had 10 available.
Ohh deffinently thanks to everyone (group hug)...seriously I appreciate all the help, and Ive decided on a motor from the guys at R Crew Racing. Just waiting for Dan to reply to my email and then let paypal take care of the rest...damn I cant wait to start building..peace out folks and thanks again
http://www.rcrewracing.com Im in the process of getting an h22 from dan over there. He's been pretty helpful..seem like cool people.
let me know how much they charge you for the whole swap and shipping etc, and let me know how clean it was when you get it, and how it cranked up etc...if Dan hooks you up nice then i want to get one from their, it will solve all my current ageda with my non H22 accord! thanks.
Well Im just buying an H22 block and head from these guys but I believe they sell whole swaps. It'll probably be a long time before I get this thing running...its kind of a slow process of saving money, building the engine, and getting it to work in the car. Im aiming to be completely done by christmas...turbo/h22 hybrid accord sounds like a great xmas present to myself.
