my carsound cat is rattling now, when I rev it up its fine, but when declining its rattling inside..is it officially blown now?

It could either be the heatshield that is tac welded to the top of the cat, or the honeycomb inside broke loose and is rattling around. My honeycomb broke on my carsound in under a month.

To check just go under your car and hit your cat with your hand to see if the rattle comes from the top or inside.

 

Mine is doing this also - the cat has not gone bad, but there is a heat shield rattling somewhere, especially whwn the engine is still getting up to temp.

I took the heatshields off around the carsound cat, Its rattling only when rpm's are declining...I've had a cel on and took it to the dealer they told me it was the cat PO420 something was the code.....What can cause a Carsound Cat to be blown especially with JDM headers and a Apexi N1 exhaust, shouldn't the air be free flowing?????

I went through two Carsound Cats before I got the one I have now that seems to be fine (knock on wood).

In my opinion Carsound cats. can be somewhat touch and go when it comes to reliability. I think the best thing to do is find a shop that will sell you a cat. and stand behind it. LandSpeedRacing (right by where I live) replaced the cat. for me twice for free when mine kept going bad.

Anyways, I suggest taking the cat. off and looking inside; I bet the element came loose in there. I believe Carsound claimed it was due to high temps causing the "glue" holding the element in to break up.
