Not supercars but some options to drive at one of my next autocrosses, which would you choose and wh
[Disclaimer]this is totally a "for fun" event [/Disclaimer]
I regularly drive my 01 R, but at the time of this next autocross that I will attend I will have just run it for 2 days at Watkin's Glen. And a friend offered me to co-drive 1 of his cars at the autocross instead:
Option #1 1989 Mustang 5.0 LX notchback that is in ESP with little more than an H pipe.
Option #2 2001 Subaru WRX wagon totally stock.
Or my R in Street Mod.
The Stang rides on almost new Yoko AVS i's (but a weak posi), the WRX on aging Khumo 712's and no other weakness other than my own inability.
Now, normally I'd choose my own car just to gain more experience but, in this case I will have just driven the snot out of it for a 2 day HPDE just 4 days previously and not had the time to prep it, And my buddy has asked me to join him for just a bit more fun before the end of my quick vacation week & I may just want a change of pace by that time.
Plus it's just fun to drive something totally different and not yours, granted not an exotic but, the options provide for certain entertainment.
The Stang is a strong car that sways in the breeze from side to side, riding on a well preserved stock suspension and bows (nose first) at the flick of the brake pedal.
The WRX wheezes till boost then rockets till the overactive ABS kicks in Way too early.
So; 4 wheel fun that will beg for the ABS to deactivated or 5.0 torque from the line with little hope of stopping but, ease for a bootleg?
I don't always have an option like this but, my good buddy kinda owes me.
Opinions?
Thanks in advance.
PS it will be an advertized WRX (test, tune, whatever) event as well, if that makes any sort of a difference.

There's something appealing about burning the rear tires through every corner. You're not going to win, but everyone loves a good powerslide.
Edit: go with the 5.0

Agreed!
But, the 4 wheel thing is also intriguing and oh so popular these days.

ESP Mustang - gives the little orange guys more of a chance to leave their box...
If it were me, I'd definately choose the ESP Mustang, even with so-so tires. Of course I drive a similarly handling (minus the power level and with a little bit more body roll) Toyota Tacoma. Just be easy on sweepers or you'll be spinning the tires/wagging the tail at best...
Plus you mention that the WRX wagon is on Kumho 712's...not a great tire unless you are entering a contest for who can make the longest sustained tire sqawk (which you could probably do the entire length of an autocross course)... might as well use stock tires.
