Lower profile tires for 2003 Accord Coupe automatic
My 03 Accord EX V6 coupe has 205/60 R16 OEM tires. Would like to go to lower-profile series (55 or 50) while retaining existing wheels. Concerned about clearance in wheeel wells. Can anyone guide me on how to find out how wide I can go? 6-sp coupe has 50 series but has a wider turning circle, suggesting they had to restrict the steering to allow wider tires.
The six speed version has 17 inch wheels with 50 series, which is what is restricting turning radius. You said that you wanted to use existing wheels, that alone should restrict what tire you can go to, at least width-wise. I don't think you can mount a tire onto the stock wheel that will rub on that car; that is unless you have really lowered this vehicle. As long as you stay stock on the wheels I think you'll be ok, no matter what tire you choose. By the way, I have driven both auto and 6 speed man., and can tell you that although the 17's handle better, the 16's seem to ride a little better..... my 2 cents worth....
Tire companies seem allergic to taking a stand on this type thing, so it's tough to get an answer. Your info and perspective much appreciated.
