serial number on itr??
what is exactley with the serial numbers, were there 1500 made in one year, or all around? and what is with the digits before the number like 00-#### or 11-#### ??
The numbers vary year to year. 1500 is just an approximation...
No one has been able to get American Honda to disclose exactly how many cars were produced 97-98 or 00-01, although I think 97s are the most rare, and 2000 and 2001 pretty common.
Anyone verify?

I'LL second that, i've seen # as high as 1600 for sale on ebay. I own # 97 of 1998. Fewer white ones because we've been available to thieves longest..

Actually its the model year of the car, not necessarily when it was made.

There is a letter (scanned) out there somewhere from Honda detailing how many ITRs were brought to the US in 1997. I'm not sure how to locate it... I know it is linked to in several older threads in this forum. I also remember that the number was.... 373? give or take a few. I think.
As for 98, 2000 and 2001, no one knows for sure.
A safe bet is around 1500 a year in 2000 and 2001, and 1000 or so in 1998. I could be wrong on 1998. I'm talking US only numbers.
The numbering system you commonly see is XX-YYYY (XX = last two digits of the year, YYYY = four digit number given to the car by honda, not tied to VIN or engine number as far as we have been able to figure out).

what slap said is correct.
There is no 1999 model in the US or canada. They judged that there wasn't enough interest to continue importing the ITR, then decided to bring it back when they were hit with a large amount of requests/demands/complaints as to why the R ceased to exist.

I read somewhere that there were between 3-4000 type r's in the U.S. I can't remember where I read that but, hmmmmm I wish I could.
I wouldn't think that the 1600 type r on ebay could have been a fake. There were several Fakes on ebay in recent months

I was wondering the same here.
I own a PY 00 R, and here in Canada it was only offered 1 year.
Some people told me that there was only like 150 sold in Canada in 2000...

I think you mean this letter and I think the number was 318. I think.
Note that it also specifies the number for '98 as 1,023.

I don't think anything is with a number like 11-####. At least, not for another eight years...
