Default clutch experiences

I thought I could search and find info about this, but either I am stupid or it hasnt really been discussed.

I am looking for a new clutch, pressure plate, throw out and pilot.

what parts have people had problems with and what parts seem to work well

I drive my car to work daily and occasionally get a little spirited in my driving, but no track or drag as of now.

any info would be very greatly appreciated.

If you arent tracking or dragging, the stock clutch is more than sufficient.

problem is price.

nearly 400 bucks from the dealership for everything. If I am gonna spend 400 bucks then I might as well get something better.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...59070

i found that on ebay, is that pretty much as good as stock?

You drive an R?

You would leave it at the dealer? I hope not

Where do you live, Maybe its near one of the trust worthy people on this board and they could "hook" you up with a local install???

As for parts, call Len. Screen name "Len"

Does the 400 dollars include parts and installation? I agree with asking for Len, i bought parts off him recently and is a great guy to deal with... great prices too.

i wouldnt let the dealership change my clutch, i will be doing it myself.

I have never had a car that I cared to get a reasonable clutch for. I have always just purchased the cheapest.

I am not at all opposed to an upgrade as long as its not unreasonable to drive. And 400 dollars is not more than i am willing to spend, i just didnt want to spend that kind of money if there is something better for nearly the same.

Take a look at Clutchcityonline.com and this would be a small upgrade but not too much : ACT AI4-HD00

ok the pictures are great, however I cannot identify what it is without manufacturer and model information.

and by heavier are you refering to the pedal pressure or the physical weight of the unit?

I got an OEM clutch/PP/TOB from Len and it was way less than $400 (around $260 IIRC).

If you're doing it yourself, do yourself a favor and find the thread on how to spring the lower balljoints easily. I didn't and it ended up being way harder than it should have been.

i'm using clutch specialties + aasco flywheel.. its cheaper than act.. i thought i had problem with setup at first.. but it was throw out baering they supplied - replaced with oem and no problems.. i'm also using upnspung disk - something you don't need

stock clutch sucks, my springs started to stick after 15k miles, but if you don't push the car, dont' get anything extreme.. and if you want that stuff to last.. you gotta spend money.

well.. i'm running 1800lbs pressure plate and unsprung stree disk.. as mentioned earlier, i've had noise/rattle after high rpm shifts because of release bearing supplied with the kit.. replaced with oem and no more noise. it was a little different at first, but very used to it now - feels stock.. since only failure i've had was bearing, i would purchase their product again.

edited.....

From the dealer, its around $800 if they do it for you. My clutch was squeaking after a while, and the dealer did a "one time good will gesture on behalf of continental acura and acura" and did it for free. It probably really didn't need to come out, and was glazed, my fault, but they did it.

My dealer's service is pretty good..... I've never had problems of extra miles on the car or anything like that...

Most of you know me and RPS, but don't relize it. My name if Rob Smith and I started RPS in 1989. I brought Dirk into the Import scene and helped him get ACT going. My engine is in the cover of the Honda Builders Handbook volume 1 and I helped my friend Joe Petitt write some of the sections. That's me with the mullet and glasses on the cover of volume 2. (I since have lost the mullet and glasses.)

The reason I am reintroducing myself to you is I have spent the last 6 years conducting a massive research and development program for our Sport , Max and Carbon Carbon clutch products, as well as our patent pending Billet Flywheel technology. I have mot advertised in the last 6 years, so even thou I have been a player in this market since 1989, anyone under 22 years old was not even driving the time I ran an ad.

Our Sport Series clutch kits are designed for BPU cars with only bolt on performance up-grades. Our Max Series clutches are designed for NOS and turbo applications for both heavy street use and drag racing. Our Carbon-Carbon twin disc clutches can be used on the street, but are really intened for the top drag racing classes.

I am currently finishing up our first prototype 8.5" twin disc carbon-carbon clutches for the B-series engine and the H-series engine. These clutches are designed for drag racing with the emphasis on the best performance for the money. I was Rado's crew chief when we brought the Tilton carbon carbon to the scene, so I know quite a bit about that set-up. The Tilton twin disc is 7.25" and their triple disc is a 5.5" unit. I went for an 8.5" size so I could hold bigger power with our twin disc. I have also made a 8.5" triple disc clutch for a very high horsepower NSX that should hit the scene soon.

My sales staff and I are going to become much more active on this board so please feel free to check out our webpage at turboclutch.com and ask us any questions you might have.
