My car was hit
Okay...I was down in seaside NJ and my hatchie got hit by some dude in a ford bronco.....he got my left front fender, he begged i dont call the cops, so i didnt, and now im scared about gettin my $450 from him to fix it...im meetin up with him today...i gotta drive 30miles to get $200(meeting him part of the way) and end of the week hopefully he wires me the $250 left...I just want my car lookin good again...poor baby
Did you get all his information? I hope you did. So even if he doesn't pay you you can take it up with his insurance company orif he didn't have insurance you can take him to small claims court. I'm not too sure if you can still make a police report after the fact but if you can he will be in alot of trouble. what's more if you want to you could make a report to the motor vehicle department and file a complaint and you could possibly get his registration and license suspended. Just a matter of whether you want to go through the hassle.
You should've got at least half of the money from him on the spot. If he gives you all the money he's a real honest man. If he doesnt go to the precint and file a report if you can. Some guy smashed my car from behind, I didnt call the cops now my pockets hurt. Its better to pick the money up yourself.
You should always call the police if there's an accident... it's not your fault he's uninsured or driving with no license or whatever else, and if he flees then all the more reason you should've called the police. I made this mistake exactly once and never have seen my 300 bucks. Luckily it was my dad's piecer van and not my car that got damaged.
I have a quick question however for anyone who might know, which is related to this... I have had my car backed into twice in private parking lots... both times I called the police.. the first time, they came and filed a report and such, but the second time they basically told me that since it was a private parking lot there was nothing they could do. These both happened in the same county, so which is correct?
Sorry to hi-jack the thread but hopefully someone who knows can chime in and we can all benefit from the info..

Usually if it happen in a parking lot, it's considered private property and the police can not do anything about it. Usually the insurance of the person who hit you will pay for it, if he call them to let them know that it happen and they can confirm it.

cops can files whats called an incident report, it does not go on your record as an accident with fault but this way you have a witness and report number to refer to if he tries to jip you, always call the cops!!!!
