is it hard to DIY? does anyone have a pre-cut model of our windows?

I would never attempt to tint the windows myself..I see way to many cars driving around here with air bubbles from a "home" job...
Window tinting is an art. It's not hard though - just technique sensitive.
Most places use pre-coated tints and a lubricant to position the strip in place. I wouldn't attempt the rear window if you're inexperienced - most places do the large rear windows in multiple pieces - cutting along the defroster lines. For smaller windows - you can use the outside of the window as your template.
It's also a very messy job. The car must/should be clean as well as your work area - or else you will trap dust particles under the tint and they will be visible when the tint dries and may even create bubbles later.
Good luck

yeah just take it to a tint place...expensive but hey u wont have ugly -*** airbubbles, and most places should giv e u a guarantee on their work
Spend the $100 bucks and have it done somewhere, The Kmart, Walmart Stuff sucks don't even try them. They don;t stick good and are a pain to even stick on.

It's not that shimmery rainbow stuff is it? That's cheesy.
You could still have a pro install it - if you buy it yourself - they probably won't guarantee the results and will likely tell you how crappy it is the whole time they're putting it on.

um.. rainbow? what rainbow?
V-kool looks like the one in Lexus RS300 (rear window).
by the way, I can only put the 2 small window and the rear window..
PA rule = can't really have tint on driver and passenger side.

that is just silver mirror tint, nothing special. I dont think the name brand matters, just talk to the shop, say you want silver mirror tint. Oh and definately have it done professionally, its worth the $200 IMHO
(D speaking through aleph's machine)
someone said it correctly, not a hard task, but an art. everything needs to be clean... clean. and paitence is a virtue... i also don't know where you guys are getting your tint done for $200.... think you guys round down a ton....
dunno, your call..

ALeph n D: hehe..
Yesterday was the 1st time I saw two of you together in public road. so I tagged along a little.
My friend who sat next to me said: "WHoa 3 Type R with 3 different Colors..."
and I added: "Yeah, 3 different years too.. 98,00,01"...
I went to Ikea get a lot of stuff on my trunk...
Aleph: so nice with that TE-37!!!
D: I heard your intake when you punch away the R (I heard it from the distance so IT IS LOUD!)
oh by the way, I need a tint somehow... since I have no garage both at home and work. My R got exposed to the sun ALL THE TIME. (sssh! I want no complaint! like D said: it is a wear item...)
PiYo- need to get back modding the R and Have fun with it ASAP!.
I missed a lot of AutoXs.. ck ck ...

I've got the receipt from the shop where Keith (the previous owner) got five windows 35% for about 190 and change, out the door
P:
yo, yeah, was pretty sweet rolling 3 deep in R's on sunday. glad you picked up the pace and tagged along.
id suggest getting someone to install your tint... you seriously need a garage with 1) no wind, and 2) no dust to install tint decently. good luck finding a resonable quote around here....
oh, btw, i'm out of this town in oh.... 5 days or so.. you're going to have to step up and join aleph on all the autox's.
take it easy...

I got my tint done here for $125, all five windows and strip across windshield, w/ lifetime warranty...
It is dirt cheap in FL for tint, volume discount, I guess...everyone gets their windows tinted down here, necessity....

plus I just got a quote for my Del Sol, $105, all the way around, for the good **** w/ lifetime warranty...
definitely better here...I had gotten my older car done when I was still in NJ and I know it was at least $200...
D...one thing I would say, is at least have someone recommend a shop to you that has had work done there...some will only do new car dealers work and some just plain suck!

Tint is definitely something you don't do yourself...(and have it come out right the first time). Not that I know, because I had someone do mine.
wish i could have mine done for 125. i paid 200 for all five windows and a strip on the front. i think it was high cause the place that did it was the only place within an hour of my house.
you can tint them in PA just don't go super dark. i have 32% on all my windows and it looks fine. the black interior helps out alot with making it look darker.
the only bad part is the damn matrix dots on the back window, but i got that fixed with some black vinyl on the inside of the window

Its hard unless you have had lots of practice...which you obviouslly have not.
To instal properly you need all the window cleaner, film cutter and widget thing to squeeze out water and air.
Unfortunately if you screw it up..its a real bummer to get off.
Best of luck.......Post up the pics when you have finished and give us all a good laugh......( or make up eat our words
