What determines good compression numbers? I just did a compression test on my 97 GSR engine and the results were as follows: 190,195,195,190 I have done some research on HT and some people are hitting as high as 230s - 240s in a compression test. Are my numbers too low? I have also heard that as long as the compression is consistent across all 4 cylinders (which it is in this case), it should be ok. Any thoughts?
Yours are consistant, that's good.
If you want to compare yours against someone else who measured 240, here's what you have to do...
1) Make sure your engines are both at the same temperature.
2) Make sure your starters both turn the same rpm.
3) Make sure your throttles are both open the same amount.
4) USE THE SAME GAUGE!!
#4 makes a difference because the internal volume of the gauge, the location of it's check valve, and it's opening/closing pressures have to be exactly the same if you want to compare.
