Default Suspension Upgrades--remain stock class

Hey all I have a pretty old Civic Sedan as you can see in my sig. It has such bad body roll and its no fun to drive fast when it involves moving the steering wheel whatsoever...heh :/ It seems to roll dangerously and I'm wondering if getting new shocks and/or springs would help. What can I do to improve this while still being able to enter autox in the stock class? I heard you can get aftermarket shocks and still be ok, but what about springs? If they are the same height would I still be in the stock class? And what shocks/springs do you reccomend for someone in my situation? Or should I just get new stock shocks/springs from the dealership? (I can get those wholesale through the shop i work at )

For stock you have ot have stock sprints, you can have aftermarkest shocks, Koni is where I would start and end on that search, however it would probably not hurt to puck up a set of new Stock shocks from honda.

Is this for autocross? Shocks would be a very good start, and I think in SCCA stock class you can add/replace the front sway bar, but that may or may not be a good idea. Otherwise, just try to adapt to driving with mad body roll. Most cars in stock classes do it.

Someone posted a pic a while ago of a road racing showroom stock prelude under braking that looked like it was going to do a front flip. Doesn't mean it wasn't fast.

Yea it's for autocross.

Thanks for the info, my big question is whether replacing my 200,000 mile+ old shocks and springs with stock ones will improve handling a lot due to the worn condition of my old stuff or if i should go with koni's and new stock springs.

I would recomend upgrading the shocks to Koni or another performance brand as budget allows. Koni really is a great shock though. If you want to remain in stock class a new set of springs may not hurt. The originals may be worn. New Bushings may not be a bad idea either. That would probably correct a lot of suspension play and get you back to a new car feel.

Ok what kind of alternatives do I have for shocks besides Koni's because I really do want them, but I'm also in my senior year of highschool and probably should be saving some money... :/ Since I won't be dropping the car at all that allows me to get cheaper alternatives correct? How are Tokico Illumias or KYB AGX's compared to the yellows?

a link to SCCA autox rules is on the top of the forum.

stock class allows only things to be changed with a philosophy that you can replace things you can have serviced and replaced at your local meineke. you can buy shocks, but you cant buy springs. same with a new muffler, or intake filter. but not a whole intake kit or header. if that makes any sense.

i would buy some decent shocks, dont even need adjustables quite frankly, and have fun. dont need to buy new stock springs, they should not change stiffness over time.

Sweet I didn't know the rules were availible for free onlnie everytime I looked on SCCA's website all I could find was info on howto order the rulebook or cdrom. I still would like some input on how much better yellows are over agx's or illuminas.
