Default pulley question

after the crankshaft pulley is removed, I can still turn the engine at the crank using a ratchet or do I have to re-install the pulley and the bolt inorder to turn the crank? Basically, my question is after the crank pulley is removed, is there a place on the crank sproket where I can fit my ratchet in to turn the crank?

If you have the special pulley remover/installer tool, then just put the pulley back on without the bolt and use the special pulley tool to turn the pulley which will then turn the crank.

Since your going to be turning it clockwise I guess you could. I just found it easier for me to just throw the pulley on and use the special tool, but then again I was going counterclockwise.
