Default Labor on headwork

How much should installing new valvesprings and retainers run me, if the head is off, and cams are out? What's a fair price for the labor?

$200, if you're slapping the cams back on..$350 to install everything

You should get a helms for about $60 and do it yourself. You will save a lot of money in the long run and make your friends pay you to install theirs.

if you took the cams out I wouldn't pay more than $100 for dis-assemble, clean, re-assembly-no more than 300 with a valve job might as well replace valve seals while your at it.

Or he could do it himself with a valve spring compressor and a helm manual.

yeah, i know how to put things in together but i was just wondering if they would do it for free since everything is going to be out anyways. IMO, they should just do it for free. people are already paying 1g just to get their headwork.

if you are getting the head ported then it shouldn't cost more, well I know I don't charge more it's part of the price of porting the head.

This is CA where Honda dealers try and charge 200 for alignment on lowered cars. Or another fine example, 125 to weld a flange on a custom exhaust. Most of the time I have to call like 10-15 places before I can find an honest shop with fair prices. This is the main reason I do everything myself now...
