just found out my might GS-R has an LSD...
I was under my car and one of my friends spun the drivers side wheel, and the passanger side wheel went the opp. direction. I was like wait, doesn't that mean I have a helical LSD? So I go out to a local parking lot, and drop it at 4 grand, I get out and see that there are two equal length tire marks for the duration of the shredding. Does this mean I have an LSD? My friend has a stock Civic CX that he dicks around with and he did a reverse to drive burn out (rolling backwards at about 15, sticks it in 1st and drops the clutch). When he does this, they are basically equal lengths, and CX's don't have LSD's, so I'm confused? Did the previous owner of my car put in an LSD? I know it at least had a header and catback because one of the header studs is broken off, and when I put on my catback, the bolts were stripped...help...

I don't know about your car...but I know my 98 GS is weird like that. I seem to get both tires to hook up all the time. but i'm not supposed to have an LSD. However, being that my tranny case is a little dirty, and I can't read it very well, there is a stamp on it. I tried to make it out, and to me it looks like it spells "ASD". never heard of that before. Nor have I ever heard of and LS/RS/GS coming from the factory with an LSD.
Don't think you got an LSD, sorry.
With a straight-line launch, its very common to get two equal strips. Drop the clutch from a stand stil making a full lock turn.
Its 100% normal with an open diff to turn one wheel one direction and have the other go the opposite direction. It HAS to, if the car is in gear.
Sorry to rain on your parade.

ASD is stamped on my tranny to. it's just a stamp for something. a clutch type LSD will spin the other wheel in the same direction when you spin it. helical it's hard to do without a load really from my understanding on how they work. like someone said, crank the wheel over and dump the clutch and see what kinda lines you make. you cna feel the LSD to when you drive as when you go full throttle into a turn you'll have more understeer.
For 100% no bullshit proof, pull the passenger side axle, if you can see straight through to the halfshaft then its got LSD, if there is a little bar in the way then its an open diff.
And an LSD does not create more understeer, does the opposite

i was under the impression that if you go into a turn and NAIL the gas menaing full throttle in a lower gear both tires will break loose rather than one like on an open diff.
i heard about looking through the halfshafts but wasn't sure that if you could see through if you ahd an LSD or not.
