ALTERNATOR PROBLEMS
(98 accord v6)
i posted a question earlier about a check engine light code, 1298-IDM FAILURE. some people advised me it was probably my alternator. currently my check engine light is not on since a few days ago when i reset my ecu. and i got my battery/alternator checked out today and it turned out to be fine. is it possible that my alternator can be good sometimes, then bad at other times. cause thats what it seems like. and is this something serious? someone told me i risk being stranded on the roadside.
also someone said that if its not my alternator, it could be my underhood fusebox.
is this a legit possibility? and is that something serious?
really appreciate any help on these questions.

P1298 is the electrical load detector (ELD) high voltage. I think the ELD is built into the underhood fuse box & you can't buy it separately.
I'm guessing this 'IDM' business is incorrect. I've never heard of one, but maybe a different car company uses 1298 for something called IDM. The code numbers less than 1000 are the same for all manufacturers, but over 1000 they're not.
It's possible for an alternator to go flaky. The brushes could be worn down so they sometimes make contact, sometimes don't? Or maybe the voltage regulator flakes out when it gets hot??
