Default Please help with HG issues.... Burning coolant like crazy after install... (long)

So I broke a peice of the IM off my sisters 93 civic. I had it welded. I put some silicone around the coolant passage to make sure that it sealed properly. I start the car and intially and it puffs a lil bit of smoke.... normal.. but then after like 30 seconds the sucker just starts blowing smoke like crazy. Sweet smell n all. So Im thinkin that I have issues with the IM because the coolant passage is right were I had the break occur. But I have just also replaced the HG and I put a different head on her car b/c she bent a valve... So I have a D15B2 head on a D15B7 engine. After running for about 2 mins (Im checking plugs and looking for coolant leaks) the head gets so hot. Its hotter then my B20 after I have ran it hard... So basically this has taken almost 4 weeks and I have not been able to get my sisters car running properly. I had ran the car with the B7 head on with the new HG and since i herd the valves hitting I put on the B2 head. I used the same HG. Is this ok? I really need to get this thing running, my sister is ready to kill me. BTW when I took off the #4 wire the car didnt blow as much smoke.... But there still was smoke coming out.... Another weird thing is that I saw coolant on the intake runner (#4) when I took the IM... so maybe I got some hoses mixed up??? Please dont tell me to try another IM cause I have tried two and they dont fit weather its the MAP setup or the throttle cable braket.... or the TB.... Some other manifolds just dont work. Any help at all would be great.....

tia

Always get a new headgasket when swapping or pulling heads.
It's cheap insurance when you think about it.

It might be possible that your coolant passage is leaking somewhere and that is why your burning coolant.

Search for some vaccum diagrams for that engine to make sure your hoses are correct and your not actually pumping coolant into the IM.

What do you think about the head heating up like it is? I did get a brand new HG and I thought it would be ok since I only had the car running for like 2 min max the first time... but I used it when I threw the B2 head on there.... so the B2 is not differnt n any way from the B7 when it comes to coolant passages etc?

thanks

the heads should be the same and i think that from the sound of this all boths are the problem im and hg, did you tourque everything properly? and silicon wont stop a leak but probly the problem is more the intake manifold with the head getting so hot and the #4 cylinder being the closest to where the problem is taking the brunt of the punishment id say check that out asap, if this helps
