Yokohama AVS ES100 vs. Kumho ECSTA Supra 712
which one is better for a dail driver?
the yoks got the better rating on tire rack as far as traction and treadwear, plus they are cheaper. However Kuhmo's are recommended a lot? ANyone know which one is better?

I'm not sure, but didn't tirerack test these against the 712?
Anyhow, the AVS ES 100 should be the better tire from just the comments here on H-T.
Buy the 205/50-15 size since the 195/55 are backordered. The diameter is very close to OEM michelins, but the tread width is nearly a half inch greater than 195/55-15 Es 100.
I like mine and they like having another 2 PSI over the OEm inflation values. They feel better like that.

do a search...if you didn't already. There are plenty of opinions on this subject.
But to answer your question....GO with Yokohama AVS ES100

That's the biggest I'd go with.

All tires should have a spec sheet showing what size rims to run with each size. Tirerack has this, but they don't update it very quickly. Manufacturer has this info too, but it should be current.
Most 215/50 would likely fit 6" rims, but some may rub when turning. You may get too much flex in the sidewall also, such that you lose handling with too large a tire width.

i have both tires on two different sets of rims. the Kumho escta 712's are a nice short term summer tire. Not really bang for the buck when you realize their treadlife. I recommend the ES100's. Handling, road noise and treadlife are excellent.

i recently got the es100's in 195/60/r14. i have put about 600 mile son them and i'm starting to push them. they are great tires. really sticky straightline but once you turn the wheel a turn or two they brake loose easily. they are a little slugish on turn in but it could be because they are new and i have a tall sidewall and not lo-profs. but much more responisve than the stokc michellins and these bullshit kelly general tires i got cuz i needed tires but had no money. in the rain the es100 work very well. i drive pretty aggrssive and my normal driving will not unhook them. i really gotta push them in the rain to get them to understeer. and as far as braking i gotta push the pedal almost to full stop in the dry and more than halfway in the rain.
i would definatly buy these again. but i'm lookin to get 205/45/r16

I do not like my Kumho's... about this time last year everyone on here was recommending them so I got the Kumhos. I have never been impressed with them.
1) They are noisy as they wear
2) They wear quickly
3) The grip isn't great
I've got Bridgestone RE730's on my RX-7 and they are a MUCH nicer tire IMHO. I'll probably try the ES100's in a few weeks when I replace my Kumhos...

Ive heard a whole lot about the yoko's...Everything so far GOOD! #1 priority for me on a performance tire is tread life cause i seem to go through tires like changing my underear.
. But yea they do their job very well, especially for their price! I Now have the Potenza s0-3's , and they are the best tire ive had yet! Love em

just put the es100s on my teg and I love them so far. They aren't noisy at all and they grip well, they also do very well in the rain.
you guys also have to remember, the 712's have been around for a while and the es100's are very new. they just came out cuz i know when i first saw them i was gonna get them but couldn't since they didn't come in stock sizes for integra's then i recently checked last month and saw that they did so i ordred them.

If your #1 priority were tread life you wouldn't have chosen S03s.

Check out Yoko's website and download the ES 100 .pdf - they compare to the RE730 in a test with an IS 300 to show that the ES 100 outperforms the RE730 in lap times (dry and wet), braking.

I would get the ES100's, but thats mainly because Ive had the Kumhos and want to try something new, and the ES100s look/sound great.
My 712s have lasted me...around 25-30k...and theyre about done. This is with a lot of negative camber, and the inner tread is finally starting to go. Overall, I liked the grip and enjoyed them in the rain. They never squealed and gripped great in everything but ice/snow, in which they are useless.
The noise..well...the noise is ridiculous. I cannot believe how loud these tires got once they got a decent amt of mileage on them. Crazy loud.
For the price, theyre great tires, but because of the noise I will never get them again.

Indeed, the 712's tend to hum, but I don't notice it unless I have the radio off. They are also really good in the rain. No complaints from me.

I don't know how people are getting 10k miles from their 712's. I've done two auto-x events and a lapping session at the local track, and MAYBE 3-4k miles, and my 712's are toast. At the hpde's, I couldn't get any grip and it made me nervous. On the streets, what little grip I did have didn't increase my confidence at all. Like yesterday, I took a left turn at about 25 mph, and they squealed like nothing I had ever heard. When they were brand new, I could take that turn at like 45-50 mph and they'd pull right around the turn. In the rain, they're alright, i guess. My next set of tires will probably be the avs es100's, with a set of azenis on other wheels.

You might consider Kumho MX and be done with it. Just spent some time at Tirerack and their tests show the Kumhos giving good account for themselves against the competition (Pirelli PZero, S-03?), which means you get top notch wet and dry traction.

Be aware that Bridgestone has release a generation 2 RE730, which looks like it would kick the ES 100's ***.
I just checked out tirerack to do some comparisons with their in-house track tests, and the RE 730 Gen 2 was posting numbers the ES 100 couldn't using an IS 300 as test vehicle in all the tests (albeit done at different times).
Problem is that the new RE730 doesn't come in any size that'll mount on OEM Integra rims.
