I like the direct wire unit, so I don't have to worry about forgetting to charge it, install it or whatever before the race. I have enough to think about at the track, so that is one less item to have on the checklist. Its a little cheaper too.

Mine is hard-wired and I noticed that the little light stays on even when the car is off, unless I turn the kill/batt-switch off. I imagine it would just need to be re-wired to fix that prob, but I leave the kill-switch in the off position when the car is not at the track anyhow. Any reason why that's a bad thing? I couldn't think of any.
pete....just get the hard wired unit....that way you won't forget to charge it!! before each session i check to make sure the LED is working so i know i'll hit....

I agree-buy it direct from AMB. They are very easy to deal with. We put the hard wired model where they suggest-in front of the right front wheel. The location was in place of where the stock CRX airbox/resonator used to reside. All you need is a piece of aluminum flat stock and 6 screws and it is in there. Since I still have the fender liner-we cut a hole where the unit touched. Takes about 1/2 hour to do the install after you locate a switched power source (Master disconnect in my case).
