Interesting discovery/benefit when I installed a Y8 manifold on my A6
Ever since I installed my Fastbrakes front brake upgrade with Integra calipers, I have been unhappy with the pedal feel. The larger calipers make the pedal feel mushy and it has too much travel. This is due to the sizing of the stock master cylinder. I had always planned on upgrading to an EX master one of these days.
This weekend I installed a Y8 intake manifold on my crx. What a huge improvement this made in the feel of my brakes. The pedal is MUCH firmer and the pedal travel is back to where it should be. All of this is due to the design of the Y8 manifod. The vacuum port on the Y8 is right in the plenum where there is maximum vacuum. On the A6, the vacuum port is in the last runner, which has much less air volume than the plenum itself. This has made a huge impact on the performance of the brake booster. Needless to say, I'm very happy.
As for performance, I think I may have lost a bit of power below 3500 rmps, but its hard to tell since there is now power there anyways. Above 5500 there is a more pronounced pull to redline, so it seems to have done the job. I think the manifold is a bit peaky because of my cam and the GSR throttle body I put on it.
Overall, I'm really please with the outcome, especially in the braking department.
