Car Guys, VIR-Full Aug 15/16/17
Thanks to Car Guys and all the workers that made this event. Big big fun. I had great students, and that just makes and instructor's weekend. Hope everyone else had as good a time as I did!

Absolutely. I will certainly be back for more. Had an awesome time. I think I really boosted my skillz around that track by "a whole helluva lot." 10 more mph in the climbing esses (yes I peek at the speedo at the top, as I went from a brake tap before 7, to a confidence lift, to flat footing on several occasions), 5 more mph after settling from South Bend, and 5 more mph at the end of each of the big straights. My shift into 4th coming out of the Turn 5a-6 complex gradually came sooner than it had on Friday. My instructor (Bob Hill) did an extremely good job of helping me out. I hope he had a good time riding along.
My only downsides were some minor mechanical issues with the car. As of the end of the weekend, I've now got 2 leaking inner CV boots, a shredded AC belt (I think the tension was off) and one front caliper that has a seized "pin", causing a tapered pad wear and me having to call it a weekend after taking my warmup lap 3rd session of today. I'm still very satisfied with the track time I was able to get.
It was great seeing you all there...thanks P1 for the hookup.
Mike-who likes the way 600+ horsepower big-block Corvettes and Vipers pass him on the back straight. It's neat.

I had a fantastic time out there as well. Thanks Diane for the great instruction and encouragement. I think AJ is probably still grinning from ear to ear as well. I must say, it does an ego good to roll a Ferrari in every session. I almost put the “you got beat by a girl in a wagon” sticker on the back of the car for the last session. Overall, it was a very fun event and I can’t wait to do it again. And yes, the XJ 220 was so beautiful I wanted to lick it.

I'd also like to thank everyone working with CarGuys for a great event. If it weren't for P1, I may not have fought for the day off and gone -- oh what I'd have missed! Everything ran very smoothly and I got so much seat time, my *** will be sore for days. In my group, I saw one yellow flag all weekend -- that means good students and great instructing! Also, a thanks to Diane for showing me just how much rotating a Miata should do.

ANOTHER XJ220?!? That makes two within the last year at local track events!! Where are these things coming from? (Don't say England, I know that much).

I have been told that there will be a 'few' of them at the October CarGuys event.
I was also told there are ~33-34 in country. The fella that owns this one hopes to have between 15 and 20 at the track in Oct.

The entire production was only about 200 cars. That was the original run, but they didn't even sell all of those, so obviously they never made more. They were only allowed into the US legally a little over a year ago, so I'm finding it hard to believe there are currently 30+ in the US. Especially considering how many went to British royalty and business leaders....

The legislation that allowed these cars into road legal status was spearheaded by the owner of a pair of XJ220's i believe. They were already imported here (which apparently wasnt that hard) but not able to register them for street use. Now you can import and register such cars (959, XJ220, etc) for limited (2500 mi/year?) use.

There are only four cars on that list. Jag XJ220, Porsche 959, McLaren F1, and BMW Z1. There were only 3 or 4 Jags in the US at the time of that law... I think you are thinking of the 959 owners who lobbied for it.

There was a story in GRM.. or somewheres. I remember reading it. It was a XJ220 owner who pushed the legislation through, he had made his $$$ restoring/repairing vintage jaguars. The law also said you had to prove the car is of 'significant value' to the owner and could not be obtained in the US - so, a euro market e36 M3 doesnt count, we already have those for example.

my bad...
back to info:
-had fun playing with Dan and Jack... (E36 and Civic SI).. it is funny that the cars are so different and yet so close to each other on track.
-student (Don) picked up the differences quite well and quickly (had been there a while back). I had fun rolling on along in the white Clibbic
-lots of Porsches were in attendance.
(pavement rippler was there again)
-plenty of V8 Iron (the C4 montsa was quite scary)
-had a sprinkle of rain Sat. morning but was dry by lunch... quite a change from normal 3-day CarGuys events at VIR-F.
-loads of track time... I put ~110 miles on my car Saturday.
I have some more pics of the ****-u-wahr... but won't put them in this thread.

I had some serious fun out there this past weekend.
I got some sweet footage of the crazy Corvette passing me on the back straight at around 150 mph.
I also got f00tage of jack and I foolin' around.
the f00tage will be up shortly.
It was good to meet the better half of you guys. I'm finally able to put screen names to cars to faces.
I was the terd in the CRX if anyone is wondering.
