What does NSX stand for?

What does NSX stand for?

Was sitting around tonight, and started wondering what it meant. Is it a completely made up name, or do the letters come from somewhere?

When it was in the prototype stage, it was called NS-X (with a hyphen), an abbreviation of New Sportscar eXperimental. It got so much publicity and accolades even before its introduction that Honda decided to stick with the name, sans hyphen.
