Default Speedo Cable Not Going In

I'm isntallnig indiglo gauges and after I tok the boot and clip off the pwoer steering speed sensor/cable. I pulled the cable out for more slack. when I went to try to upt it back in. I slid it all the way in and put the clip back into the outer groove knowing it would go through and catch the speedo cable groove. this is my problem. IT NEVER CATCHES THE SPEEDO CABLE GROOVE!!!!! SO MAD I've tried for hours and hours into the night trying. it's as if there is no groove on the cable where it sits to match the outer groove. I am pretty sure that the cable is not gongi in far enoghu cause when I measure it. it looks to be about 4 millimeters off the groove. so I have to push down further but I tried as hard as I could and it doesn't budge. any ideas???

Should look liek this when done.

It looks almsot like this except the cable isn't actually locked down by the pin cause the cable wont go far enoguh down for the pin to catch...
