91 Honda Accord preventative maintenance... sort of
Ok this is a tough subject but here goes.. I just sold my 90 300zx TT. I have a company car but we will be driving our 91 Accord on trips and such from now on. I don't want to mod this car out but want it to look and run as good as possible. I need to know of any big problems with these cars, symptoms to look for before they arise and what the hell to do about the wax that I can't get off the black molding. I realize this is a broad subject post but any comments, opinions, links, etc will be greatly appreciated. I want to enjoy this car as much as possible.
ps is the $62 for a service manual gonna pay for itself or is it an expensive Chilton's?
thanks again

the service manual is a helm's....it can be found at http://www.helminc.com
the service manual is really good...it has too much detail if you ask me...huge diagrams, exact steps to take...while other manuals, like haynes, expect you to know certain things...and they're mostly full of pictures (helm uses diagrams so you can see the thing exactly)
check the distributor (i know there is a recall for my 93...but mine is working good right now), rear panels for a rust hole (alot of people had it break through the metal)...umm, i can't remember the rest right now
didn't sleep much last night...and also my car has been very good, no problems at all

If you experience intermittent starting problems - replace the main relay.
Some people have reported broken springs at the very end of the spring. We
had this problem, only noticed it when we had the struts and springs replaced. Never noticed a problem with the ride or anything.
Brakes, if Honda OE, should last almost forever (we got 70K+ out of the fronts, 165,000 rears).
Ball joints are known problems with this accord. We replaced them 2 times. Not a very expensive repair.
No other major problems on our 92 Accord LX 4 door.
I ended up getting the original Honda service manual on eBay. I see
people listing them once in a while. Got mine for, like $20 or so.
It should be the most trouble free car you have ever owned. Very boring to own. No drama.
170,000 no major failure at all. Just maintenance, and wear items replaced. Tune up every 30k (plugs). Timing belt at 90K interval. LOF at every 5K (Honda OE filters).
Heck, I have started autocrossing this car this year. It is actually doing better than I thought. I am just a lousy driver, but the car is holding up great.
