Default ITR or skunk2 for my setup?

ok the setup will be

b18a block
type r pistons
b18c1 head ported and polished
ITR outer spings, portflow inner springs
skunk2 intake manifold
dc 4-1 header
custom p.o.s. exhaust

ok i know skunk2 cams are good. but are the stage 1's really worth the extra $200 bucks? My compression is probably gonna be somewhere between 11.1:1 to 11.3:1 and ive heard thats not high enough to make good power with the stage 2's? what do you guys think?

Stage 2's making decent power with my stock 10.6:1 compression.

ive seen alot of people on this board saying you need at least 12.x:1 to make decent power with the stage 2's.... are they just full of it or what?

Many of the people that say "you have to have at least 12:1 compression to run those cams!" are just parroting what they have heard. Having 12:1 compression definitely helps, but those cams can work with less.

Since not all of us get Drag Sport, could you hit the highlights? Specific engine tested, were the A/F and ignition maps tuned for each set of cams, VTEC engagement point, cam gear timing, etc. We could all use the information

i personally have not read the article that Omniman is referring to, but i do know that the CTR cams offer the best midrange of just about any cam. they normally make more power up to about 7K than any other cam. after that the aftermarket cams will start to make more power, from 7-8.5K or so.

so you have to think things out. go with the cheaper OEM cams that will achieve quicker acceleration below 7K than others OR go with a more top end cam and sacrifice the low/mid range power. of course every motor is different so the decision may not be easy when choosing a cam.

the stage 2's are some of the best cams out. they make awesome power and are very reliable. the ctr cams were cool before there were any aftermarket cams but now there are so just don't even put those on your list of cams to get. go with stage 2's or jun 3's.

if thats ITR or CTR, i dont remember
if you want a good idea of other motors with the same power you can look at dyno's of the JUN III.

*Steve, I, and alot of other people understand that you hate skunk2, but after seeing this stuff on at least three forums, It's getting a little redundant.
I'm running alot of skunk2 products, a 2-layer headgasket, making decent power and I, as well as the more than dozen friends running similair setups, havent blown up yet, sorry.

for my new N/A motor i'm planning on Skunk2 stage 2's, JUN 3's or maybe ef-1 M24's. i've heard mostly good reviews about the Skunk2 cams and the JUN cams.

i definantly would take Skunk2 cams over CTR's for the overall power gain, but that of course depends on the motor's components and what the use will be. if you want to save some $$ and stick with strictly OEM items the CTR cams aren't bad.
