is a gsr block and type r head a good combo
i'm thinking about going this route since i have a type r head in need of some type
of bottom end. if you people know any better combo's please tell me, and explain why, but try to answer my main question first, thanks.

do you also have your gsr head?
the gsr chambers are pentroof style already...like the rsx...
and you can get more compression using the gsr head vs. the type r's...
i would just send your gsr head to MAX_CFM and use an ericksracing.com
throttle body...getting the gsr intake manifold ported and or polished.
wonder where i got my idea...cough cough Rocket cough. lol
of...just get the chambers re welded and shaped pentroof style on your type
r head...if yer type r head is laying around this means no down time if ure car
is a daily driver.
depending on what kinda gas is in your area..if u went with the type r head u
might use CTR pistons or JDM ITR pistons..if u went with gettin your gsr head
worked...i would just use JDM ITR pistons IMO.

We have done a stock GSR block with a b16a P&P, the car was a civic hb running 12's all motor street driven. So what you are doing, I think your set-up is gona be a good street car!
so how much whp is expected from a type r head on a turbo gsr block built? Worth it, or just port the gsr head which would be more then to buy the type r head?
i have a fully built lsvtec short block for sale if ur interested. brand new freshly built by Denise from ldl racing, same person who built danny tran's motors (DTR). consists of b18a block freshly bored and honed, shotpeened ls rods, new ctr pistons, all new bearings and rings, jdm itr oil pump, lightened and balanced crank. This block with a type r head should give u 200+whp easily. let me know if ur interested thanks. just IM me
this was a good ? ask and would've have been even better if the guy who had the type r head for me didn't sell it.
the head was only $500 with everything on it

Perfect, except I would like to see ctr pistons instead of itr.

thanks, yah like i said in another post it depends what kinda gas u get in your area.
cali gas=91 octane
so aside from the potential damage of ctr pistons w/gsr head (high compression) on cali gas, jdm itr
pistons are lighter
oh yah:

notice the b16head in the review has a comp. port n polished, and upgraded valvetrain...basically superior to a stock type r head..and it still got beat by a STOCK gsr head on an LS/VTEC.

I'm pretty fortunate to have 93-94 octane available over here on the east coast - that's why I would like to have the CTR's.
But, I didn't know that the ITR's were lighter. Is that because of the CTR's higher dome? Would you prefer the higher compression or the lighter weight? The reason I ask is I will be doing this setup as soon as I find a decent ls crank.
