I have finalized the budget for purchase/construction of a car and I would like to float an offer that some folks might think is a little nuts. If you find yourself thinking that, you need to do a budget reality check yourself because this really does make sense...

I have a plan for the car but I do not have any interest in buying a tow vehicle, trailer, shop/garage space, and all that crap that I sold when I went back to school.

For this reason, I am looking for someone who would be willing to offer storage, shared labor on the car, and use of a tow rig for a couple of weekends a month during race season in exchange for the use of the race car for the other couple of weekends. A time-share co-op kind of thing.

I am going top-shelf on the safety equipment on the car but it is not going to be an nth-degree front runner initially. The whole point is to knock the big chunks of rust off of what used to pass for mediocre driving skill and have fun going to the track again.

Having had bad experiences, I won't consider offers of old tow vehicles or crappy trailers and - sorry - I can be kind of a dick where preparation, attention to detail, and cleanliness are concerned so hammer mechanics or people who don't clean up their messes are out. The shop/garage also should be reasonably close to Greensboro, NC.

The resulting arrangement will be an LLC or similar legal entity, unless someone with a professional shop is interested in working something out - that might be a possibiity as well.

I don't know that there is actually someone out there whose goals and resources complement mine but it's worth a try: I've already talked with one person who is interested but he seems a little hesitant, and I'm not in the business of convincing someone to do something that they don't want to do. Thats a fantastic idea. One that is used more often than some of you might imagine.
I trade Enduro seats for work on the car by those that are skilled beyond me in such things. The usual "you wreck it you bought it" rule still applies, but things seem to be working out for everyone.

Heck, this is how we discovered that Blake needs to be piloting my car at the ARRC. He helped me put the motor in the car and I gave him an enduro seat. We both won on that deal .

I had a few other people pull my chain on it but they werent serious. Its going in the paper next weekend though.

 

If you were in NOVA I would help out.
